Destination Wedding in the Keys

I am trying to find a small, low key place to have a sunset wedding on the beach.  So far I have found the keys to be the most interesting, Islamorada to be exact, but I am open to just about any ideas.  I live in Indiana so it is difficult to go and visit these places.  If anyone has had a destination wedding in the keys or has ideas of places to have a small ceremony and reception it would be much appreciated.  Have a great day!

We got married in Islamorada, so I can probably help you with questions you have about that area.  We loved it!!!  We chose Islamorada because of the selection of beachfront private estates and and the ease (and affordability) of getting there from Miami. We ended up choosing an estate with two beach houses side by side facing the Atlantic - the estate functioned as our wedding "venue" and also provided lodging for us and our immediate families.  There are a few pics on my profile.

If you are interested in a beach house wedding, here are some vacation rental sites you may want to look into:

As far as resorts, there are so many to choose from.  The Islander Resort and Cheeca Lodge are large family friendly resorts in Islamorada.  Casa Morada is a lovely resort for an intimate ceremony, but I don't think they allow children under 16 to actually stay there.  The Caribbean Resort and The Moorings are incredible.

Here is a blog that compares a few Islamorada venues:

We honeymooned in Key West and had a blast, but I know very little about planning a wedding there.

  • I'm getting married on Key West.  I've found that there are tons of places to get married on the island and most cater to smaller sized weddings.  Our ceremony is on Ft. Zach Taylor beach and our reception is at a restaurant, Kellys Key West.  There are so many options on that island!
  • I am getting married March 11th this year in Key Largo at the BAYSIDE INN KEY LARGO!!!! They are pretty  much letting us run the place all weekend. There is no stupid site fee if we book 15 rooms.  It's small a quaint but has an awesome view! There is a pier jetty that sticks out in the water that we are having the ceremony on...Adrian is the guy to talk to there! He's awesome :)
Conch house is catering...awesome awesome food!!! Hope this helps!
