Need your help!!!!

Ok girls, you all know I've been having an issue with my leg. When that all went down working out was kinda put on hold as a) I was in the hospital during most of my free time and b) when I wasn't I was in pain...

They put me on new meds (which apparently could cause bloating or weight gain).
Result? I have gone up 2 PANT SIZES IN A WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's where I need your help... I can't do anything that would aggrivate my knee, but I can put together an ab workout to work on getting this handled... what are your favourite/most effective ab workouts that wouldn't irritate my leg/require the use of my leg?

Re: Need your help!!!!

  • Have you looked into pilates.  That is a great core workout.  I did it when I was on vacation, (crazy I know), and it was great.  It was 95% floor work.  There might be some things that you can't do but I think that it might be an option for you.  Also our gym has an arm bike, (not really sure what else to call it), but you use your upper body for cardio instead of your lower body.

  • Do you happen to have the Wii? I like doing the Wii fit exercises sometimes. They have an ab workout and several others you might be able to do. Other than that I'm no help, cause I usually just go to the gym. Don't get discouraged, you'll loose it in no time!!!

  • I broke the rules a little yesterday... the only leg stuff I'm allowed to do is a 'short relaxed walk' so I took the dogs to the park with FI, all intentions of following the rules... we lost track of time and it ended up being a 2hr walk. My leg hurt a lot that night but it was nice to be able to get out like that again!

I used to do some pilates... I only know a couple different exercises from it though.
  • I am sorry Britt.  I know how discouraging that can be.  I am not much help.  My only suggestions would be the same ones that you have already gotten from the PP.  Hopefully this is just a short set back and you can get back to normal soon.

  • What about some arm workouts? If you don’t have free weights, you could use stuff around the house and do bicep curls and raises. As for abs, I do planks (not sure how that impacts your leg, though?) and you could also do some iso work where you sit in a crunch position and hold for a period of time. I also do just normal sit-ups and will feel the burn from that.

  • I am game to try anything I can get away with doing! I cannot afford to be gaining weight.... I need to be able to fit into my dress, and its my mother's so I can't just opt for a different dress lol
  • : (  That sucks.  Ditto pilates!  There will be some you can't do, but you can definitely modify and still find plenty that can work around your knee.
  • I do the P90X yoga and it works great!  And sign up for Women's Health online, they have lots of different workout options. If you don't know anyone who has P90X I'll see if FI will burn a copy and I can mail it to you.

I hope they get your leg fixed soon =(
  • I had debated the P90X but didn't want to pay that much for something I hadn't tried yet... let me know if he'd be willing to do so, that would be amazing!
  • Oh girl I'm sorry!!!!  I'm definitely on the yoga/pilates bandwagon.  Do you have access to a Pilates Reformer board at your gym??  Those things are AH-Mazing and can literally work every muscle in your body w/out putting a strain on anything.  My fav ab workout is 10-1's.... 10 full range sit-ups, 10 bicycles, 9 full range sit-ups, 9 bicycles, etc...

Get better soon and don't get discouraged!

  • Thanks guys for the support :) I am determined I'm losing the weight, and asap! won't get home until like 11 tonight, but would like to have a new workout to start tomorrow! One that I've altered enough that I can do it right now lol
  • Thanks! I just know the weight thing is driving me INSANE ontop of everything else! I can't control how long it takes the drs to figure it out, but I can atleast tackle this side of it...
  • Britt I hope your leg gets better very soon!!!
For ab work outs I do small crunches, ones where you sit in a sort of v and twist and tap your elbows to each side (does that even make sense?!?!?!) and ones where you lay on your back, knees in table top position and point your toes and tap each leg down one at a time, it works your lower tummy.  I don't know if that will help but I just really hope you feel better!
