engagement pictures

I am just wondering if anyone is not getting them done.  I am debating about it, we can get them done for 200 but I don't know if there is any point.  We get married in Nov, and I always said I wanted fall pictures, so I have to decide soon.

Re: engagement pictures

  • I really still want to!  I think it's totally worth it.  We'll both have lovely professional photos in a few months but I really want some more casual engagement photos.  I'm really going to try to do this but obviously am running out of time.
  • I really wasn't intending to have any E-pics done, but our photographer talked me into it.  It took very little convincing on her part though! :) She is treating it as a "get to know you" session which I think is wonderful!  It'll make us a little more comfortable come wedding time.I think if you can afford it, do it.  It's better to do them than to regret not doing them later on in the future.  Plus, you get your fall pictures and we all get to see!!  :)
  • Here's an option which we did....... We didn't want pics that looked to fake or posed so we had a friend with our camera take a few casual pics of us to use as "engagment pictures" I like it so much better then traditional style ones and had a blast taking pics with a friend!

  • I agree with pp it will give you the fal pics you want and some nice NWR pics of you and FI.  I kinda want to do them for that reason, but FI is anti photo so we will have to wait until the wedding.

  • I don't think we're doing it, simply for the affordability reasons.  We're working to get a deal out of our photographer, but I would rather have a TTD than engagement pics.... but of course, if I could, I would do it all :)
  • We aren't doing them. I can't think of anything I would use them for. But, we might have a friend take some photos of us just as practice since FI is not photogenic at all! :)

  • We will be taking them.  We also have never had professional pictures taken.  I am so excited!!!  I am lucky enough to have a wonderful mom that does amazing photography as a hobby.  She mainly shoots dogs, she does Greyhound adoption/fosters/keeps them :)  Joe and I are both pretty big hambones so we love to have our pictures taken!I hope you decide to do it, if you can afford it.  In OR alot of photogs include engagement pics at a very minimal cost or with the package.

  • We didn't and I really wish that we did.  A good friend of mine is a photographer and she was going to do them 'on-the-cheap', but our schedules never seemed to work out.  Now we are so close to the wedding that I'm just going to scrap the idea.  But I'll be happy with just our wedding pics...and we are planning to TTC in the next year and I plan on having pregger pics taken.Go for it!
  • We didn't and I wish we did... Little too late for that now! I say if any part of you wants to do them - and you can afford them - then do it! Better than wishing you did! :-)
  • We originally weren't going to do them but I'm so glad we did. It's nice to have some pro pics of us that are non-wedding related, and plus it was reallllly nice to have some "practice" before the wedding. FI is really not great about getting his picture taken, and I was surprisingly nervous about it too at first, so it was nice to just get a feel for what it would be like. And now my photog knows what works best for us and what doesn't.
  • We are using the on-site wedding photographer, so we dont have a pro.  We had one, but decided it was going to be too costly to bring them down with us. Ali, you make a good point for us to practice...

  • I'm so glad we did e-pics! I love them, and they are really great pictures of us we can have forever that are non-wedding. One of my friends who got married a couple years ago said that she really wishes she & her hubby had done them because the only nice pictures they really have are from the wedding. She just wishes they had done the e-pics because they're like another way to remember and put spotlight on the engagement. I wasn't going to do them, but I'm so glad we decided to. Ultimately it's up to you & your FI. Some people just aren't into it for whatever reasons, and that's fine also! :)
  • My mom and FI's mom love to take pics too as a hobby, so we just went out with my mom one day and took some pics.  FI was being a baby and complaining the whole time, so the session didn't last long, but we got some good pics out of it.  I want to do this again in the fall, because we have beautiful fall follage (sp?) in PA.Do you have any friends/family that could shoot some informal pics for you if  you can't afford professional ones?
  • Another option to do the engagement pics "on the cheap" is to look on kjiji, or craigslist. A lot of photographers that are starting out will do the e-pics for next to nothing to build their portfolio. For example, I found a girl who started her own professional photography business, but wanted to expand into weddings. I only paid her $60 for an hour, and she gave us 250 professional, good looking, non-posey pics on a CD. If you look around, it might be worth it!
  • I just got my e-pics back tonight...and I love them. FI and I had never had professional pics taken and this was a great test run for our wedding/TTD session with the same photographer. Just getting to know eachother's photo "style". We took ours 9 weeks before the wedding. It was a blast! If you can afford it, DO IT!
