No dancing at our reception, I need help!!

So, I've been trying to come up with an idea for entertainment at our restaurant reception since we won't have any dancing. I'm breaking my head trying to come up with a great idea but I'm falling short. Our reception is going to be in the early afternoon on the beach, so dancing just seems so silly but I still want to have some type of entertainment.  Here are my ideas, let me know what you think.  Or if you have another suggestion pleeeease chime in!!1.)  Flamenco dancers to put on a show for us.2.) Salsa dance Instructors to show us their dancing technique and teach us some moves.  (Fiance wasn't a big fan of this one, but I think it'd be kinda fun.)3.) A tour of some sort after the reception.I really appreciate the help ladies, this is bugging me.Natalie

  • The show with the dancers would be fun.
  • If there were dancers there I would be getting my butt up on stage!!!  Why not do a snorkel trip, then set a time like an hour after you get back to the beach and meet at one of the bar/clubs at the resort?  You could get a really cute sundress and make the dh dress a little better than cas and call that your dancing portion of your reception!

  • How long is your reception? We did something similar to what you are describing, with a late morning ceremony and afternoon reception at a restaurant. There was no dancing but we did have music playing (from my iPod). Honestly I dont think anyone would have wanted entertainment. Everyone really just enjoyed visiting with one another. The afternoon went by so fast it still felt as if no one had enough time to talk to everyone else. It is a very hectic day, and sometimes scheduling or planning for every moment isnt such a great thing. That's just my opinion :)
  • I tend to agree with Esbie.
  • Hey Esbie11... long time no hear :o) Thanks for your input ladies.... the reception would be about 2 hours long give or take.  I just keep envisioning that everyone is going to be bored or something.  But our restaurant is right on the beach with a great view.
  • I agree with Sarah. I don't think you'll need entertainment. I think people will enjoy mingling and eating and I bet the 2 hours will fly by.
  • this is going to sound really dumb, but it kept a group of 10 adults occupied for hours. Maybe you can put trivia cards on the table. I know it sounds weird, but it's really fun. A group of friends and family went to a brewery and we seriously read the Trivial Pursuit cards for 3 1/2 hours and it flew by (the beer helped too...lol). We had a blast and we didn't know half the answers. I'm sure not everyone would be into it, but some might =) HTH!
  • With this being after the wedding, it will be a half an hour or so before pp start eating, then with drinking, talking, the time will fly by!!  I don't think you need anything!  I am not having anything at mine..and no dancing either..

  • We didn't have dancing either. Had a hour and a half cocktail with a steel drum player and then a 2 hour dinner reception and everyone just mingled, listened to music, ate and drank.

  • Our reception was also 2 hours and the time flew by sooo fast! Between eating, pictures, etc, you will not even have time for entertainment. We even ended up staying an extra 30 minutes because people were still eating and talking and just weren't ready to leave. Our reception restaurant was also right on the beach and people enjoyed being able to just walk down to the beach with a drink in hand :) I would def not worry about any kind of entertainment.
