New here... destination help?

Hi everyone, This is my first post, I'm not really sure about where to even start. My fiancee and I have been engaged for almost a year, and now we're really starting to think about when and where it will be. I'm excited about it all, but to be honest I'm also feeling really overwhelmed about where to even start. We are thinking about having a destination wedding, because we were at one recently and just loved the overall feeling and vibe they had. The problem is, we live in NJ - how do we know about what is good and what isn't good in Mexico? (we're thinking maybe Mexico, but aren't really sure yet...) Anyway, I just wanted some help on where to start the whole process. How did you guys start looking for vendors and places (and most importantly food!) if you weren't actually there to do it all? HELP! Thanks, TB

  • Hi and welcome! there are a lot of Mexico brides here. I would take a look at some sites online and see what draws your attention... tropical, desert, jungle... look at some resorts, decide if you want all inclusive or not and wha type of lkodging you'd like- a big resort or an intimate condo. Once you have a basic idea post it and I'm sure one of us will have some info. I'm good w/ baja california norte and sur, Oaxaca- coastal and the city of & Guerro specifically Ixtapa. Let me if I can help. GL and happy planning :)

  • Hey and welcome! There are so many Mexico brides to get info from. Personnally I'm a Jamaica girl. I thought about Mexico, but I wanted to do a legal ceremony and there seemed like alot of hoops to jump through for that in MX. As for the DW, go for it. I'm so happy we are doing it this way. After 3 months of planning I'm actually enjoying it. Most brides I know spend the whole time stressing out. To start out I went to my travel agent who lead me in thr right direction. Then I bought the knot's guide to destination weddings and so far have followed it. It's been so much easier than I thought and at 8 months and counting as of TODAY we have all of our guest booked! Let me know if I can help you, this board is full of great girls.
  • Thanks guys. I'm just really stressing about how to start. So many different threads and articles and ideas ...
  • I'm SO happy to be doing a destination wedding - I can't wait!  Mine's in Mexico - Mayan Riviera, which is beautiful!  So yes, start looking at areas and what accomodations you want and keep us informed!Welcome to the board!
  • Hi and welcome! Picking a location really is the hardest part. It will be stressful, but after you've decided everything gets really fun :) My suggestion is to start looking through people's bio's to get ideas of where everyone else is going. Make a list of what you really want in a location (AI, adults only, family friendly, on a beach, etc) and go from there. Also make sure you look into marriage license requirements for whatever country you decide on. Some require blood work, minimum stays, etc. Tripadvisor and google will be your best friends. Have fun and let us know if you have any questions!
