First dress fitting - not good

So on Friday afternoon I had my dress "try-on", that's what the lady called it. Well... it went not so well. I know most (if not all) of it is because I am just... more overweight than I thought. Problem one: I wore a corset type bra, which I honestly don't need under the dress, it's more just for my own modesty. So when the lady was lacing my dress up I was standing with my hands kind of up on my hips, and so when she laced it up and I let my arms hang naturally all the back flab hung over the dress.Problem two: I don't think I like the top, bust part. For 1 it's too big still, and secondly I think I would like a sweetheart neckline better. Well, see the dress is very structured, if that's the right word, and I want my boobs to stand out more. Not in a whore-ish way, but I want the bust / neckline area to stand out more. I'm beginning to think I really picked the wrong dress. The lady at the shop told me that I don't need to come in for an alteration fitting until November, but I'm worried that won't actually be enough time to make the changes I want, I don't even know if she can make it into a sweetheart neckline.Ok, done complaining. Time to be pro-active! :)

  • Aww Sarah I'm sure it looked better than you think, we are the worst at criticizing ourselves. Did you take anyone with you, what was their opinion? Since you've not had it altered, would they not refund it and you can buy a different one if you are really against it?I've seen magical transformations done with dresses so hopefully they can do what you want. On a side note - I LOVE your bouquet! Will it be real flowers or silk?
  • I'm sorry it didn't go like you wanted... Do you have any pictures? It's usually not a big deal to change a neckline to a sweetheart, I would ask if they can do that.
  • Ok, so I went and looked at the pics in your bio of the dress. So, it's a gorgeous dress! I really like it. I love the detailing at the top. I'm sure you can find a way to make your boobs stand out more, wether that is a different bra, or altering the neckline to be a sweetheart (which would look really good on the dress) or maybe even both. Just tell the alterations people what you want, they will find a way to make it happen.
  • You are going to totally be able to transform that dress into exactly what you want! If you really feel like you picked the wrong dress - start thinking now about getting it switched for another - if you can. I think your dress is stunning and I think you will definately fall back in love with it. Don't worry - I have a love hate relationship with my dress too :-)
  • Thanks ladies :)I realized that I didn't explain the whole boob situation very well, the thing with the dress is that the front is very stiff, so there's not a lot of definition in the top area, from the side it just looks kind of flat, and I'm not wild about that.Well I think I'm going to ask them if they can make it into a sweetheart neckline. It is a really pretty dress, I just need to figure out how to be happy with it.
  • Did you try it without the bra? I remember when my cousin tried her dress with the bra there was so much spillage it was obscene. We convinced her to take it off and try it and the dress looked beautiful! Good luck, I bet you looked beautiful- we are our own worst critics, you know?! :)
