Newbie needing ideas!

Hi everyone! We are planning on getting married June 2010 and are just starting to plan things. We are thinking of doing a destination wedding and have thrown around some ideas.  What are some of your favorite locations or other popular desitanations?  Also how many people are you planning on inviting?  I look forward to learning a lot from you ladies and thanks in advance for any ideas!Joann

Re: Newbie needing ideas!

  • Welcome!  We love Jamaica and decided that's where we wanted to be married.  We invited everyone we would have if we had a "normal" wedding, just over 200.  We're expecting about 30 to come and are having an AHR two weeks after we get back.
  • We absolutely loved Hawaii, but it would have been too expensive for our families to come from the east coast. We picked Bahamas as our awesome second choice - closer to home, easy to get to, still tropical, and fit our budget. We're expecting about 60 now. Good luck in planning and welcome to the board!

  • We originally wanted Hawaii as that's where I'm from, but because of the location we couldn't ask FI's family from Minnesota to travel all that way.  Instead, we chose a Cruise... a short one... along Baja California/Mexico.  We were expecting maybe 25 to 30 guests, but we have surpassed that ~ people we didn't expect to book their cabins booked!  Welcome to the board!
  • We are getting married in Maui... we LOVE Hawaii so it was a very easy decision. We invited about 75 people... expecting that not many would be able to make the trip. We have 40 people confirmed... and it may be 46 (waiting on some last minute details). We are having an AHR a month after we return and will have around 300-350 people at that...
  • We going to Cozumel, Mexico. We live in Oregon so Mexico is pretty inexpensive to get to and Cozumel is a small, "romantic" island that is never very crowded with tourists. The wedding package we are looking at is for 24 people. So we will probably invite 30 people, knowing a few won't come. We will also be having an AHR(at home reception) a few weeks after we get back. We will be doing it at fil's backyard that they have been working on for the past year and a half. The AHR will be for everyone who went and friends and family who couldn't afford too, so maybe 100 max. I like the idea of always keeping wr activities smaller and intimate. HTH and welcome to the best board on the knot :)

  • Welcome! Mexico was a cheaper choice for us, and as a result, the winner.  I've always wanted to go to the Mayan, so that's where we'll get married :)  LOVE IT. I think it's best to figure out what you're looking for and then heading to a TA to see what's reasonable. Good luck!
  • Hi and welcome! We're getting married in Key West. We invited 75 people and are expecting about 30 to come. Let us know if you have any questions!
  • Welcome Joann. :-)FI and I are getting married in Turks & Caicos, but while we were looking we also considered the DR and Key West. We are expecting somewhere around 15 guests.

  • I'm with FutureMrsMcC. We love Jamaica!!! Been there 3 times and have always had a wonderful time so why not get married there. The legal wedding is easy there and the Sandals is gorgeous. We have 25 people going including 2 photographers I've hired for the trip. It's April 16, 2010.  Planning this DW has been so easy. I helped plan church weddings for my sister and brothers weddings and it was not even close to this simple. Go DW! Congrats on your engagement.
  • Hi and welcome!!!FI and I are getting married in Hawaii. We wanted something tropical, but in the states so nobody had to mess w/ passports. Hawaii is perfect for us b/c we're on the west coast flights are too bad. Make sure you check out bios for ideas, they really helped me =)
