LIP: Need your creative minds....

I have a ton of things that I need to nail down, and it's really too much to post here.... I don't want to "hog" the board, and I certainly don't want to bother the people who don't want to read my long list!  So, for those of you who have the time to maybe take a peek, please read my Blog entry posted this morning on my blog and see if you have any ideas and/or suggestions.  I greatly appreciate it!  The link is in my siggy, but here it is as well:  http://shellisweddingblog.blogspot.com/TIA and Once again, Happy Friday everyone!

Re: LIP: Need your creative minds....

• Have you asked the cruise people about any of these questions?? Maybe they can provide you chairs? They must have lots of weddings, do they have an arch? For beach weddings, I always loved it when the archs had thin white tapestry over it. Or just simply use flowers to decorate it. For your runner, just decorate it with tons of flower petals! Hold it down with starfish and shells!
• 1) & 2) If your WC can't provide one and have it properly decorated, don't worry about it...I think it will be too much hassle carrying it, packing, etc....beside you have a beautiful background as it is.3) There are ipod docking systems that are battery powered...that might be your best bet.4) If you don't mind people standing up, forget about the chairs. I've seen eremonies set ip in a semi cirlcle with people stading around the bride and groom and they look very nice and intimate.5) I like the idea of the flowers better. I would be concern walking on an aile over the sand, ripping it apart or tripping and falling. Plus...The flowers on both sides look awesome.California reception:1) I think pople will be expecting food, especially at that time. I like the idea of spliting them in two and serving the heavier ones later. also do include it on the invite so people know in advance.
• Hi Shelli,1. I wouldn't do an arch unless provided by the WC or cruise... I think it would be too much hassle to carry it on board with all of your other stuff and set it up on the day of the wedding. If it's going to be a short ceremony, I don't think it would matter. Or maybe instead of an arch you can do some sort of simple floral arrangement that's tall that won't be too much of a hassle...here's a link w/ what I mean, you could make it as simple or elaborate as you wanted. http://www.beachsidebride.com/files/tropicalbeachflorals.jpg2. I agree w/ Normailed on the Ipod3. I wouldn't do chairs unless you had elderly guests that might require them. Otherwise I think it would be a waste for such a short time period for just a few chairs. $10 is a lot for chairs - I think mine were only $3. 4. Aisle runner - I would do flowers over fabric in the sand. Much easier to walk on I would think. You could sprinkle flower petals all over to make the aisle and I like the idea of the flower garland along the sides. HTH!
• Thanks for your ideas ladies!  Normailed, with regard to the chairs, I totally agree with you, however, we have 4 guests who are elderly and will not be able to stand for that amount of time, albeit, it's not very long.  I've called Carnival and inquired about using a couple of chairs from the ship, but was told that can't be done.  I'm still hoping to work something out with them though...... I have yet to contact maybe a hotel right on the main drag to see if I can work something out with them. You guys are great.  Thanks again.
• Hey Shelli! I got your email but thought I'd reply on here =) 1) I honestly would not waste effort and $ on the arch. I may be a bit bias, but I think the beach is enough beautiful decor for your ceremony! We also had our WC make a huge heart in the sand and fill it with rose petals, just to add a little something. But IMO, I think you should use the beautiful scenery to decorate. 3) I'm not extremely helpful in this department because our WC provided the music for us. Basically, it was one speaker and she hooked her MP3 player up. The music was a nice touch, but it only played as we were walking down the "isle" and after the ceremony was over. 4) I personally loved having our guests stand around us. It made the ceremony VERY intimate. If you do have elderly guests that are unable to stand though, the chairs are probably worth the $. 5) No runner! We didn't decorate our "isle" at all but I have seen it done with garlands OR rose petals! I think you should only do decorate the isle if you use an arch (or something like it)...
• Alright, here are my opinions:Arch: I would ditch it the idea. I think the beautiful background of your location is plenty. Unless your WC has one you can rent. I think bringing one on to the boat would be a total PITA.Chairs: I would ditch these as well. People can stand for a 10 minute ceremony and you can put the $200 toward something cooler.Aisle: I personally am not fond of runners on the beach. You could do a sprinkling of rose petals and then line the aisle with starfish or something.AHR: Just say "cocktails & hors d'ouvres and people won't expect a meal. After three hours I bet most people will either be gone or be leaving anyway.
• Oh, I forgot music. You could always bring some computer speakers and plug in an ipod, but I have heard that it's often really difficult for guests to hear the music this way because they don't go loud enough, or if they do then the music sounds "tinny". Can you look into a local musician who would do an hour of music for you? Or do any of your guests play the guitar/violin/flute...anything they could bring on board and play as a wedding present to you?
