To pay for day passes?

We have a couple of guests who have timeshares in Mexico. They want to go to our wedding and will be staying at their timeshare. Question is, are we responsible to pay for the day passes for them to come to our resort for the wedding day? I think at Barcelo it's like 75 bucks per person. I don't want to sound cheap, but... what do you think?

Re: To pay for day passes?

  • Hmm...that's a tough question and I have no clue what the proper etiquette is. For me, I would only do it if it was a close friend or relative that I cared about being there. If it was just a so so friend, then probably not. I presume you are already paying for dinner and drinks, so an additional $75 is a lot. But again if $75 was all it took to get a close friend there I would do it.
  • Hi!! One of my co-workers just went to her sister's wedding in Cancun and they stayed at a time share. The wedding and rest of the wp was at a Dreams resort. It was about 100 bucks to get in each person and the my co-worker paid for it. To me a DW is about all the guest staying together and spending the whole time together. But we also go on group vacas every year, so maybe that is just us. But to answer simply, no it is not your responsibility. They are probably paying close to nothing for their accommodations.

  • Ditto pp.  I wouldn't pay for the day passes, since they won't be paying (much) for accommodations.  If they mention the time share, just remind them that the day passes are $xxx - maybe that would be enough for them to stay at least 1 night at the resort, even if they stayed the rest of the time at the timeshare.
