Key West Brides - Rehearsal Dinner??

What is everyone doing for the rehearsal dinner? I would like to invite all of my guests without breaking the bank. There will be at least 50 people coming to the wedding. My WC suggested we reserve a catamaran sunset cruise for two hours. That way alcohol is included for two hours and we can bring on platters of appetizers. In November they sail from 5-7 and our guests could go their seperate ways after for dinner. Is this tacky to not serve a full dinner? All the places I looked at for a buffet or sit down dinner is at least $50 pp.Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Key West Brides - Rehearsal Dinner??

  • I don't think that's tacky at all. In fact I am looking to do the same thing but I don't know yet if they offer it from Siesta Key. I would love to hear from any other knotties who are doing or have done a reception cruise.
  • We aren't having a rehearsal, but we do want to get everyone together the night before the wedding to pass out our OOT bags.  Our plan is to invite everyone to the pool/tiki bar/restaurant area at our hotel for a fun, informal get-together.  We may order food from the restaurant or have pizza delivered, but there will be drinks!HTH

  • I say go for the sunset sail!  That's exactly what we're doing this November.  We're not calling it a rehearsal dinner, it's just a Sunset Sail on Friday (we're doing Welcome/Thanksgiving dinner Thursday).  We're going to do a quick rehearsal with the bridal party and then off to the boat.  I like that it's different and they'll get the great experience of a Key West sunset sail (how we got engaged).  They do have boats that offer appetizers, but it doubles the price.  The boat offers sangria, wine, beer and soda.  My brother in law will be going to Publix to pick up a couple platters of finger foods and then everyone can go where they want for dinner.
  • I am thinking we can just call it a Welcome Sunset Cruise. Where are you doing the welcome dinner?
  • I don't think it's tacky at all. In fact, we're doing a catamaran sail as our actual reception. We are serving heavy hors d'ouvres though.
  • I think it sounds awesome.
  • That's a great idea, Welcome Sunset Cruise :)  We're having our welcome dinner on the beach at the Hyatt.  We're staying at this hotel and having our reception there as well.
  • Does anyone have ideas of places to rent for a reception or even somewhere that takes reservations for large parties?  We are going to have probably 15-20 people come to our destination Key West wedding and want to take everyone to dinner or have a buffet.  Would love the beach/water environment with some type of entertainment if possible.  Thanks so much for your help!!!
