booking your dw wedding

OK....I am starting to have major concerns about my TA. I started e-mailing back and forth with her in July. It is now 10 months out from my Aug 2010 wedding and I am waiting on her to get "finalized" pricing so we can book our trip and dates. She gave me some "general pricing" based on current room rates...but no air prices. No discounted group pricing either! I need this booked ASAP so I can order my STDs. How early did you book your DW trip? Am I tripping, or is it normal not to have finalized pricing 10 months out? Also, now I'm worried that if I don't get this booked soon enough, I may not get the date that we want to get married on....since we are going to Sandals with tons of other couples getting married.TIA!

Re: booking your dw wedding

  • I didn't book through a TA, I just went through the website, so I can't be much help to you there.  But I can give you some general info that might help you relax a little.  We are getting married in October and didn't book the resort until April, so that's about 6 months.  Most of our guests didn't book until last month so they were kinda waiting until the last minute!  :)  I started talking to the wedding coordinator at the resort in April and I had several time slots available on our date, which is a Saturday. We are getting married at Beaches so I figure my info should be true for you as well.

  • Unfortunately air rates don't come out until 330 days from the travel dates.  So she may be waiting for solid answers for you.  Otherwise it'll just be a guess as well.  I would definitely follow up with her though if you haven't heard from her in a while and just let her know you're very interested in booking and just need the information to do so.
  • Thanks ladies. I'm feeling a little better about it now. :-) I just want to give my guests as much notice as possible.
  • Yeah I know what you mean.  That part seems like it takes forever.  Especially since we try so hard to get as much info as early as possible.  GL.
  • Not sure if I'm any help, but my TA gave me final prices for Sandals in St Lucia (1st week of August). We are just debating now what we think the market will do (ie. will the prices rise or fall?)   It may be a little different for me since I'm coming out of Canada and Air Canada is the only company that will fly there. My TA suggested booking soon.... but then again... different situation with me being in Canada.Good luck!! :)
  • I went through two TA's until I hit the jackpot, we contacted a few local TA's and frankly it seemed like I knew more information than they did.. Our TA Nancy from www.myislandgetaways.com who does a gazillion destination weddings sent out our STD's complimentary and set up our wedding date and time and did all the leg work for us which made my whole planning process so stress free. We also got a great discount and many freebies that we would not have had without booking with them. She was our saviour!!! We did everything about a year in advance but the pp is correct we could not do our air portion until later. We locked in our resort and secured our wedding date and time which was most important to us. Everything went just perfect.
  • Most airlines don't have tickets available until about 8-9 months before your travel date. Until then, any estimate about how much tickets will cost is just a guess because the tickets just aren't available. We're not doing STDs until January for this reason.
