alteration questions?

So I had my first fitting yesterday and she gave me the bill for what the alterations would cost. I wasn't expecting it to be cheap, but it was $225 for hem, 2 bustles and press. Does that seem high to you ladies? It's a corset dress, so nothing is being taken in, just shorten the hem and do the bustle (which she said was only $20/ $55 for the press). I'm scared to bring my TTD dress to her. It will need to be taken in at least 3 sizes and shorten the hem, no bustle. It's gonna be ridiculous! Should I shop around or is that right about what you gals are paying?

I think that is about right... doesn't seem [i]too[/i] high... but it isn't cheap either!! I think that you could take your TTD there... but tell her straight up that you dont want to spend a lot of money on it becuase you are just going to trash it. If she wants too much, then take it somewhere else. I mean, its not like you need the hem to be perfect. My TTD dress was WAY too long... I just didn't want to pay to have it shortened :-)

$550.  It makes me sick.  Try your local board to see if they can recommend someone less expensive.

That is very similiar to what I am paying....you might want to take your TTD dress to her but say, my budget is ------- for these alterations. What are you able to do for that amount? That is what I did for my wedding dress and "somehow" she was able to do everything that I wanted/needed for that price. Hope this helps and good luck!!
