NWR: Gift for a 1 year old!

HELP! My nephew is turning 1 in three days and I completely forgot to get him something. :( With everything going on, I just didn't realize how much time I don't have!I have no idea what to get him. I mean... he's 1! lol. It's not like he's all into video games or sports, haha. He does loooove things that make noise & light up. I really want to get him something that he will enjoy (duh!) but that will also stimulate him. Baby Einstein or something? I don't know. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • Also, a more contructive suggestion is to buy him a book.  I have four nieces and nephews, and I buy them at least one (age appropriate ) book for each holiday/birthday.  Pushing some literacy never hurt anyone, right? :)

  • Thanks for the tips ladies! I think I was stressing myself out for nothing because really... he loves anything that makes noise & lights up! How hard can that be to find forr his age group? lol.Kahtie - I actually did ask the parents and they were no help. I was like, seriously even if you just need me to buy him diapers/formula/food tell me and I'll do it. Because I know at 1 the gift is kind of... well he'll never know the difference. Ya know? So I thought if I could help them out in some way that may be even better. But... they were no help. So now he's getting a book & something that makes noise. lol.
  • My neice just turned one in May...I asked her parents what she needed. Turns out she had just grown out of her PJs. So she got new PJs, some of those cool soft-soled leather shoes (can't remember the brand name) since she was just learning to walk, and a book.
  • For little babies, I usually do a cardboard book and a savings bond. I know when dd turned 1, we got SOOOO many toys that she never did end up playing with them all. Our apartment looked like Toys R Us the day after Thanksgiving. It drove me batty! Plus with Christmas coming up, he'll probably get even more "stuff" - but like you said... mom & dad should have given you something to go on. lol And I think the soft-soled shoes pp is talking about are Robeez - dd had a few pairs of those. I think Pedi Peds are similar.
  • Three words:  Sit and Spin!  It says 18 mo and up, but I have given this for the first b-day.  And seriously, it was my all time fav toy!
  • Oh, the days when you could just spin and spin and spin...  until you got sick and staggered trying to get up from the sit'n'spin...  Now, they have ones that play music...  Seriously thought, we gave FI's niece one for her 1st b-day.  She loved it!  Her parents had to help her at first, but she is getting the hang of it.
