St. John Wedding?

Hi Girls - I'm totally new to the boards and trying to navigate accordingly.  Trying to find out if anyone is planning (or had) a wedding in the USVI, specifically St. John?  Planning upcoming nuptuials there and looking for ANY advice you could offer about any of the hotels on the island.  Thanks!!

Re: St. John Wedding?

  • I haven't planned a wedding there, but I was a guest at a DW on St. Thomas USVI. We stayed at Bolongo Beach and it was nice, but sort of secluded from the town of Charlotte Amalie. If you want to be away from town it's great, but we had to pay a taxi each time we went into town. The wedding was at Best Western Emerald Beach and it was gorgeous. The couple we saw get married took a cruise there, got off at the port, then married at the Emerald Beach Resort. I'm sorry I can't help more with the St. John area, but it was very beautiful everywhere!
  • Im getting married in St John next summer! Ive actually visited st john about a dozen times in my life, Im very familiar with it. There are only 3 resorts on the island. The Westin, Caneel Bay and Gallows point. The resorts are very expensive, over $300 a night. Although I dont know if you get any kind of special rates if you hold your wedding there, and I dont know your budget, but i think that is ridiculous for my guests. My family always rents a villa, a private house. We are also recommending our guests do that. You can get any type of house from a 1 bedroom to an 8 bedroom or probably more. My parents have used www.cateredto.com and http://www.destinationstjohn.com but there are a ton of others too. Renting a private villa is much more affordable especially if a familyl/group stays together. My 2 couple friends are getting a house togetther and it looks like it will be about $115 a night per couple. Im also using www.islandstyleweddings.com for my planning. I noticed that your wedding date is the 4th of july, I was actually planning on having mine on the 4th, but my planner told me that everything will be more expensive (i saw a lot of the villas are more on holidays too) and it is also when St John has there festival, its a really big deal down there and its super crowded in town. so I dont know if that will matter to you or not.  Ok this is getting long, let me know if you need any other info!
  • Thanks for the info ladies.  I never thought of getting a villa before, is that where you also are getting married or are you doing it on a beach?  I thought Carnival could be a problem on July 4th, so we are thinking of switching it to July 11.  Thanks in advance for your info and keep me posted on your wedding plans!
  • No problem. We are getting married on Cinnamon Bay (where he proposed) and having the reception at Rhumb Lines restaurant. Supposedly it has THE best food on the island. Surprisingly I have never eaten there in all my visits, but it has amazing reveiws and a great party plan.
