oot bags

for you guys that are doing oot bags.. how many people are you having at your wedding? are you making one oot bag for each guest, or doing one per couple? im considering this but have no idea how many people i will have or how much this will cost. i feel like this can really add on an expense. to those who aren't doing it.. are you doing anything else to thank your guests?

Re: oot bags

  • I have 30 people coming and I gave 1 bag per couple and 1 bag per adult individual (so my sis and aunt are sharing a room, they are going to get 1 each). My OOT bags are small - I found mini canvas bags and then filled them with sample-size everything plus tissue packs, spanish phrase books and crossword puzzles.  I think all of the sample-size stuff cost me $150 and the bags cost me $40. So with shipping it probably cost me about $200 total.
  • So far we have about 20 guests and 13 bags.  I am doing like the other poster said and giving each couple a bag and then each individual a bag, even if their sharing a room.  I got lucky that my mom sews all the time and made my bags for me, I just picked out the material.  I was like you where I really wanted to do it, but didn't want to spend a ton.  I decided to do the bag and get everyone beach towels.  I bought a few more little things like tylenol, wet wipes, aloe, but I think I've spent about $100-$150 on the stuff, not counting the bags.  You don't have to have tons of things in the bags and it doesn't have to be super fancy.  Spend what you want, and spread it out.  I bought like one or two items for the bags when we would go shopping and it definitely seemed like we didn't spend as much.
  • Info and FAQ questions re OOT bags are in my bio under OOT bags. For the bag, and some of the things that will go in it, we'll be getting some stuff from orientaltrading.com
  • We are expecting to have about 40 people cruising with us and are going to be giving one Welcome Bag per couple. For the people who are cruising individually, they'll get their own. Of course, the couples will have double of some things. We've been buying things periodically over the last year for the Welcome Bags so it's not one big expense all at once.
  • We are doing one per couple or one per household if they have kids still living at home. I've been picking up things for the bags pretty much from the time we got engaged that way it's not a huge chunk at once. I found bags made of palm leaves, I would include the link but it's on my computer at work, but you can google palm leaf bags and they should come up. I paid $6.00 per bag. Since we're doing the cruise I'm putting stuff like sunscreen, flip flops, a beach towel, stuff that they will be able to use througout the cruise. I snatched up the beach towels on clearance for $3.00 a piece. But yeah, it can add up very quickly.
  • I'm super late to this party but ditto everyone else.  One bag per couple or single person.  You can do it as inexpensive as you want.  A craft bag with handles - tissue and ribbon would be super cheap and cute.  Then a couple of snack things, welcome letter, etc would cost almost nothing. My bags were $2 each and I shopped the clearance racks for everything else.  I spread out the shopping but would guess OOT for 31 people cost about $300 (maybe a little more).  I also added a burned CD of island music and that didn't cost much at all.
