After Party/Reception

Quick question.  We are having a destination wedding but want to have a party/reception back at home after we return.  How long should we wait to have it?  Or, how long is too long?

Re: After Party/Reception

  • Hi there. I don't think there's a "set" time frame. I've seen it where some have waited a full year before they had an AHR. We are having two. The ceremony is in April, the first AHR in May, and the second AHR in June.
  • I agree with shelli. There really is no standard time frame. We are having ours 2 months after, but I've seen girls on here who do there's 6 months after.
  • Mine's two weeks after we get back (three weeks after the wedding).  I agree there is no time frame but I think anything over 6 months is kinda silly.
  • I'm having my wedding on April 16th, coming back on the 24th and having my AHR on May1st. I wanted to still be on my wedding "high" when I had the reception. Plus summer time is always very busy for people so I didn't want to push it forward too far. That's just me.
  • We are getting married on 3/31, our AHR is on 4/10. DF and I don't return until the 8th. If it were possible I would have given myself more time in between things. Now I have to have everything ready for the cruise, our honeymoon and the AHR before we leave.
  • Our photographer promised our photo CD would be in our hands no more than 4 weeks after the wedding.  So our AHR will be about 6-8 weeks after the ceremony since I want to be able to show off our pictures.  My goal was to stay within 3 months because I felt that anything longer and the "wedding high" would have worn off.
  • We are getting married on 1/08 and our AHR is 2/28.I wanted to give myself time to focus on that because honestly I am not planning on focusing on that until we get back. I pretty much just have to make sure that the favors & cake are ordered before we leave, then everything else is basically flowers & food. I'm planning on keeping it simple. The decorations will be flowers, and we will probably have pictures from the wedding all around.
  • We plan to get married April 27 and have the AHR on June 19.  Ours was pretty much dictated by my nieces and nephew's school schedules.  One set will have to travel nine hours and take more than just the weekend, so the entire month of May was out due to some standardized tests, so now it's after everyone is done with school!
  • I think we're going to try to do it about one month after the day of.  I didn't even think about the pics being ready - super tip! :)
