Poll: Cost of cakes

Would any of you lovely ladies care to share how much you're paying for your cake/AHR cake? I'm trying to get some perspective here. And yes, I realize that it varies based on location. Just looking for ballpark figures.

Before we decided to change our ceremony to the ship, the cake we were going to get would have been $285 for a two tier with sugar flowers.

I was told $7/pp from the place I really wanted.  I thought that was completely insane!  Over a thousand dollars for a cake and a simple one at that.  So I'm now going with the neighborhood grocery store at $3/pp.  Which is still about $450.

Future Mrs C. - interesting you are getting yours from the local grocery. I got the cake for my first wedding from ours, and it was beautiful. I had them do a cascade of fresh flowers top to bottom (2 or 3 tiers) and to be honest, I think the flowers cost more than the cake. True, this was over 10 years ago, but I bet we only paid $200 or so. Chosen - We haven't started looking at cakes for our AHR, but will probably go that route again. I love the huge unique wedding cakes, but just can't comprehend spending $1000's for an edible product, half of which will inevitably go to waste. Not very bride like I know, but what can I say?

Wow! I read all the other ladies prices for their cake and I'm thinking we're getting a steal for ours. Our cake is going to cost us $100-$125.00 for 50 people. Fi and I love white cake with whipped frosting.  So we'll have a white cake with natural flowers on it.
