rings...

Hey guys-You all are always so helpful, so I wanted to post this question. Where did you all get your wedding rings? I at first was thinking only a jewler (not a chain). But then we went to Kay's last night, and you cant beat their warranty! They replace anything for a lifetime when you pay for the plan! Yes, a private jewler is great, but each time you go, and they may take care of you.. it costs! Diamonds are diamonds, right? Gold is Gold?I found a ring I LOVE at Kay's..... my FI thinks Im crazy and should just get it... but I wanted to post! haha! So exciting!

Re: rings...

  • Kays is actually one of my favorite jewelry stores.  Most of my jewelry is from there and I have never had a problem with any of it.  I plan to get FI's ring there as well.  So if you found the ring you love there then go for it!
  • We went with a local jeweler - he's apparently really well known for wedding rings in the area. There's been a few girls I've talked to that were like - yeah we got our ring from Eddie too! We got a GREAT deal from him. I'll let you know how our shopping goes today for FI.

  • My e-ring is from an antique store but I take it to an independent jeweler for maintenance. If you found a ring that you love, I would go for it!
  • My e-ring is from kays its the leo collection and I LOVE it! My bands will be from Kays also. An FYI they do diamond events where you can design bands etc but it is kind of expensive. They do these events a few times a year... Well atleast the one by me does (you might want to ask) let us know how your shopping goes!

  • We got ours at Zales.  We move a lot and so dealing with a private jewler was basically out of the question.  Plus you can't beat the warranty.  I lost a diamond in my ring the day I got it!  They replaced it no questions ask.  If you love the ring, then get it!  :)

  • We got our wedding bands at Jared which I believe is a sister company to Kay.  They have the same warranty which we love.

  • I'm really hard on jewelry (probably because I never take it off). I would definitely go where the warranty and service is! But then, I'm having trouble finding what I like too (I'll post another thread though) If you've found what you like, get it!
  • My e-ring is from Shane Co. and it has warranty, but if you don't take it for inspection every 6 months it voids the warranty. We do take it every 6 months and right now they are fixing it because it lost one of the side diamonds :-( My wedding band was custom made. We did get it at a jewelry store, but it's a local designer that sells his pieces through the store, and we got it at an event where the store was going to make just 10% of the price instead of the 30%, plus I stomp my feet complained and we ended up getting it for $500 less than our budget and the stones on it are bigger than the ones I wanted...hehehehe...of course they don't know that. Now, it does not have warranty, but all our rings and bands are insured in the renters insurance.FI band we got online at TitaniumKay.com, the price couldn't be beat...even if something happens to it, it was under $100.So in summary we got everything: big store, local designer and online...bottom line is if you love it and if it fits the budget...you should get it! =)
  • My e-ring came from Zales, my band came from Macy's jewelry, and FI's band will probably come from Fred Meyer jewelers or online
  • I encouraged FI to get my e-ring from a local jeweler that's been in business since the 40s. They have a warranty, a couple locations, they'll clean the rings - and my money stays here. For big or meaningful purchases, that stuff matters to me. We'll get our bands at the same jeweler he got my e-ring. FI shopped around, going to all the different jewelry stores. At the jeweler he went with, he was able to pick out the band he wanted, they ordered a couple diamonds that were according to his specifications, and he selected the setting, then they put it together. I love that you have that flexibility with local jewelers. Plus it's highly unlikely that anyone else has my ring. Oh, and the local jewelers have really good customer service. FI was really unhappy with the customer service at the chain stores (esp. the ones in the mall). I don't think that diamonds are diamonds and gold is gold, btw. Men's wedding bands should be a certain weight in order to be sturdy enough. Also, chains don't allow you the flexibility you get with individual jewelers. And the quality of the diamonds varies GREATLY by shop. FI said when he went around to the different shops you could tell the difference in the quality from store to store.
