Wedding Dress Vent

Ok, so I just gotta get this off my chest because its driving me insane... 

As many of you know I am wearing my mother's wedding dress. My sister, who is a fashion designer is turning her 80s dress into a sweetheart neckline, strapless, backless gown with a black sash, black beading and black crinoline. I have been excited from square one but suddenly I find myself looking at other dresses online and wondering if I've made the right choice. 

Now I have given many of you advice on dress regret, and I know that its like 100% because I have never even seen my dress finished let alone tried it on, but its driving me INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

Grrr.... ok, done venting lol a cold drink for all of you who just listened to my tirade lol

I'm sure it's frustrating because you have no idea what it is gonna look like but I'm sure it's gonna be perfect for you, ESP because it's sentimental! Im sure if there is something you don't like about it your sister will fix it. How far along is she? Have you seen it recently? Sure there's tons of beautiful dresses out there but there is nothing close to the one that will be made into your dress, this one is only for you and no other bride in the world will have it! I saved my first wedding dress in hopes that my dtr will wear it someday. It was beautiful and i paid a lot of money to preserve it. I didn't marry her father (thank god) but its still my wedding dress that I would be honored for her to make her own for her big day! I can't wait to see the finish project Britt, I know it will be beautiful!

I haven't seen it since the first fitting, when it was entirely looking like my mother's dress, so I haven't seen any of the alterations.
Not sure how far along she is, we live like 4 hours apart.

I know its going to be way more sentimental than any dress off a shelf, its just driving me nuts have not seen what it looks like, everyone else knows what their dress looks like! Lol

I keep pulling up the pictures of the first fitting to atleast have something...

Ask your sister to keep you updated on the progress.  Maybe she could send pictures, explain what she's doing, just to add a little more excitement to the unveiling.  There's nothing that can come close to this dress. Your mother wore it, and your sister is making it perfect for you.  That's something that a dress in a wedding magazine can't replace.

Thanks, you're right... there is no dress I can pull off a rack or out of a magazine that will have the sentimental value this one will have

I would definately ask for her to keep you updated. That would drive me nuts!

I also have been browsing other dresses online. I keep having to tell myself to stop!

I can understand why it's driving you crazy.  I would be going crazy too not knowing where she was in the progress.  Ask her to take pics and send them to you every once in a while.  They will put your mind at ease (and will be great for scrapbooking).

Britt, I wished we lived closer together.  I'm going through the exact same thing!!  It's scary not knowing what the most important thing you're going to wear on the most important day of your life looks like.  Your sister has to be good at this, or else I'm sure you wouldn't have asked her to change the dress.  Ask for pictures to ease your mind.  I also made a rough sketch of what I want my dress to look like, that helped me a lot.

My sister is an established fashion designer, she has done amazing work and is making all my bridesmaids dresses too... I haven't actually sketched it out, I  should though... we've talked enough that I know what I'm getting done to it

Yeah, ask for pictures and updates.  It'll settle your mind.  And if that doesn't work, become a two dress bride.

I had considered getting something for later in the reception... my mother's dress is pretty big and I would be PARANOID to ruin it in some way, shape or form.... still tossing that idea around.

I agree, definitely get updates.  I'm having so much done to my dress that I feel your pain.  It's scary not knowing exactly how it will look!  I agree with Kimmy too, maybe get a cute short dress for the reception.  And relax, it'll all work out!
