Cancun wedding

Yeah!  I made it to the new board...

Anyway, hi everyone!  My name is Ruthy.  I'm 25, and my fiance and I are getting married on 2-26-10 in Cancun, Mexico.  We are going there, just us two, to get married on the beach.  We just locked it in today, so we're really excited!  Our wedding date was originally on 7-31-10, but we moved it up and decided to do it this way to save money and so we could go away when it's cold here in Minnesota.

Are there any other Cancun brides out there?  We are getting married and staying at the Sun Palace.  I'm just a little nervous about the requirements and the blood test there.

Re: Cancun wedding

  • Welcome & Congrats!

I'm a 1-8-10 Cancun bride, getting married on the beach at the Marriott CasaMagna.

We aren't getting legally married in Cancun, we are doing the legal thing at home, and doing a "symbolic" ceremony in Cancun. We consider Cancun to be our official wedding and when we will celebrate our anniversary. We didn't want to deal with the requirements & blood work down there.

We got our marriage license and then had FI's ordained aunt sign it, we didn't say any vows because we want to save that for Cancun & only say them once.

That is another option if you aren't comfortable with the requirements in Mexico.
  • Congrats!

Thanks... we already booked everything, so we're pretty stuck.  I talked to our county, and they said it's legal here if we do it there.  They said there aren't any filing fees or anything like that.  I'm just a little nervous about the needles in Cancun.  Eeeek!  Undecided
  • We were just married (3 weeks ago) in Cancun at Beach Palace.  It was absolutely perfect!  I was a little worried before I got there but everything went well once we were there.  They do have a lot of requirements but it all goes smoothly, especially with the wedding coordinator there.  From what I understand, Paola, the wedding coordinator is the wedding coordinator for Beach Palace and Sun Palace.  If you have her- I can assure you that everything will be fine.  She was great!  I was very nervous about the blood test (it is always hard for them to find a good vein to get blood from).  The lab comes in to do the blood test and they are very professional and sanitary.  We had ours the day of our meeting with the wedding coordinator and it all went smoothly.  They did a great job after I told them how hard it is to get blood from my arm (they actually used a butterfly needle in my hand which is usually what I get here at home at the Dr.)  I was surprised they even had the butterfly needle, which was big relief for me.

All in all, everything was fantastic and we wouldn't have done it any other way.  We had such a great time with our families and friends!  And we can't wait for our anniversary next year to go back (we may even stay at Sun Palace next time)!

  • Thanks!

That's great information for us.  I'm so glad it went smoothly GonnaBMrsA!  That makes me feel a lot better.  I will have to tell my fiance too.  He'll be relieved.  I heard good things about Beach Palace, so I definitely want to get over there.  I hear they have good food as well.
  • Yeah, the food was really good.  I heard people say that they have some of the best food out of the three hotels right there on "the strip".  My parents went to Cancun Palace two times while we were there and they said the food was much better at Beach Palace.  I didn't have much to compare it to because we only went to Xpu Palace (not very good food for lunch) after one of the tours and Moon Palace (where we had dinner the night before the wedding and that was very good).  But the food at Beach Palace and the hotel itself were great- we loved it!  You are going to have a wonderful time!  We wish we were still there:(  Good luck and congratulations!  Let me know if you have any questions.

  • We were married on 8-8-08 at Moon Palace - but stayed the week at Cancun Palace.  Did you check out Dreams Cancun?  they have the most spectacular wedding spot!!   We had too many people coming with not enough of a package deal from Dreams.

    Congrats!!
  • We didn't check out Dreams for the ceremony... although I hear it's great.  Right when I saw Sun Palace, I knew I wanted to stay there.  We just love how private and how much smaller it feels.  I also like how it's not by all the party going teenagers since we'll be around Spring Break ;)  Our goals are the excursions, eating a lot, and relaxing on the beach and at the pool.  We don't drink a lot, but I'm sure we will there!
