If you registered...

Did you register for small, more inexpensive items like towels, etc. mostly?

I am just wondering since the guests are going to be paying a lot with flying, hotels and cars.

Since getting everyone to actually NOT do gifts hasn't ever worked, it was suggested that we register for something at least.

Thanks!

Re: If you registered...

  • I didn't want to register at all.  I felt uncomfortable with it because of the expense of our wedding.  My coworkers threw me a shower (typical for our school) so I registered for that.  I did mostly smaller items (upgraded towels, kitchen gadgets) and two nice sets of sheets.  I also registered for some beachy items.  Several guests at the wedding used the registry too and actually purchased our really expensive sheets (love them!).

I'd recommend mostly smaller items, but then add a few splurges too for guests who might want to spend more or go in together.  We got mostly cash from those who actually traveled to the wedding, but a few shipped things to our home.

We have a full registry the same as a normal wedding, but our wedding isn't a typical dw location and so there aren't uber expensive flights or anything lol

Made sure we had a good variation of price points though so there  is something for any price range
  • We did a super small registry - new towels, sheets and maybe a couple of other small kitchen things.  We don't want people buting us stuff as we have it all already, but figured some (I'm assuming) older relatives who won't be making the trip will still feel it's proper to send a gift, so we wanted to give them an idea of something useful.  We've posted on our website though to please not send gifts

  • We have a range of items, small to large.  However, we have a very small group going to the wedding and a larger group for the AHR.

  • Ppl started asking us what they could get us as soon as we were engaged. Since we'd already been living together for many years and owned a house together, we didn't need a bunch of the usual registry items. We decided to do a honeymoon registry instead. Since not everyone likes those I also registered for my dream cookware and we did a small registry with Amazon for some books and DVDs. We got so much from our registries just for our engagement party that we had to add more. My point is ppl are going to want to buy you gifts. Do a range of smaller gifts and some bigger ones, too. You may be surprised at what you get.
  • Don't forget also that if you have a close group of friends, for example, they might all go together on a larger gift that they think you'll like... we just did that for a friend's baby shower... put in $20 each to get one of the most expensive things on the registry because it was what we thought they would like most :)
  • We are registered at Bed, Btah, and Beyond so far and we did a full blown registry that ranges from small, inexpensive kitchen gadgets and towels to a $300 margaretta maker lol.  We gave lots of options in a variety of price ranges becuase I figured you never know!
