Help me stop my nightmare !!!

Hey guys,
I have been having a recurring nightmare about something happening to our dog while we are away. This is seriously the only thing that makes me hate a DW. I cannot believe my doggie will not be there =( I would seriously take her with us if she was not so terrified of things (her and planes just do not mix).

Anway-everyone who usually watches our pup is going to be at the wedding and I have no idea what to do with her. My FI & I have been thinking about it for a while and we have no options. We want someone we can trust so no strangers. She is very skidish and only likes certain people (she has gotten way better since we first got her...but when our other dog passed away she got a lot worse again). She would absolutely freak out at a kennel so that is out of the question too. One of the GM, my mom or FI's mom are usually the ones that watch her when we are gone. But they will all be there so I have no idea what to do. I seriously need to figure it out so these crazy nightmares will go away.

Do you have any friends that aren't going that would watch her? My friend is a vet tech and watches peoples dogs on the side, maybe your vet knows someone that would do it.

Most of our friends are going ... cannot really think of anyone that could do it that will not be there. And I am nervous if we got a stranger she would be terrified. Maybe we could find someone that she could meet first or something. Not really sure.

Why don't you have her meet a few dog sitters, get to know them, before the wedding? Looks like you have some time do it. It may be a little time consuming, but at least you can see whether you and your dog are both comfortable with the dog sitter...?

Or possibly take your dog to a doggy day camp. Oftentimes they do consultations in advance, so just see how your dog will do, perhaps? This way, your dog can be taken care of, but will have other dogs to play with...

That is a good idea. I would love it if they could stay at my house but not sure if that is something they do ? See...my dog does not love the idea of playing in a group. She hates the dog park and usually just sits in the corner and watches. She is a bit of a weirdo.

My friend and I are going to NYC next week and is debating whether she should leave her dog at home by herself and just have someone come in during the morning and evening to feed and walk her. That could also be an option for you. I think it's a good idea since you said your dog doesn't do well at the dog park and around other dogs...

Aww, we had the same issue with our doggie. My sisters best friend is a vet tech and does doggie sitting, so she is going to take a week off work and stay at my parents house and watch my dog, my moms cat and my brothers cat. I liked that I knew my dog would be somewhere she is comfortable and what better person to leave her with then a vet tech? My dog would not be happy of we left her in a kennel, she is also not super comfortable with other dogs, she doesn't do anything she just doesn't play. She's better one on one. So I second looking for a vet tech or animal sitter that will stay at your house. It's easier on nervous animals

Good news ! I asked the girl I work with who I totally trust. She is going to stay at our house and come a few times before to meet our dog

What do you think a good amount to pay her is ? I asked her but she would not tell me anything...she just said whatever I think is best. I am her boss so I feel like I should give her something haha !

That's great! Not sure about pay. Maybe see what you'd pay a kennel and go from there!
