AHR Timeframe?

Hi Everyone! I'm kinda new here. My partner and I are geting married in September 2012 in VT (we live in Charleston SC) and I'm thinking will probably do an AHR later too. However, is there any ettiquite on the time frame for the AHR? We will be paying for the wedding and the AHR ourselves so we may need to space it out a bit. We are planning for about 20 people at the wedding and there are so many we'd want to celebrate with later at home. What do you think? Thanks!

Congratulations and welcome! There is no set time on when you have to have your ahr. IMO, I'd make sure to have it before your first anniversary. We are having our ahr 2 months after our wedding. That way we'll have enough time to recover a bit from our wedding and have some extra time to pay for the ahr.

I agree with Kimmy, have it within a year but I think it's fine to wait a little while. We are doing ours about a month and half after. That's mostly since it was a good time for most of our guests.

PS. I just got married on the Isle of Palms! I love it down there!

11beck congrats! I bet your wedding was beautiful there! And thanks ladies for the input. I've seen so many say they are doing the AHR whitin a month afterwards but I'm not sure we can swing that.

I generally think the sooner the better, within reason. Afterall, the idea is still to celebrate the marriage. IMHO a year is way too far out. I think somewhere between 1 month and 2 months is the max for it to feel right for everyone involved. We did ours 3 weeks after we got home, and while it was a bit rushed, it would just be too weird to try to do something 6 months or a year later.
