aaand a Vent...

Even though I had the wedding of my dreams, there was a huge jerk that tried to ruin things. That's right, Steve from Beach Bums I'm calling you out! We went with Beach Bum Vacations because everyone on this board raved about them. So we started off with Kathy & she was a hot mess!! She gave us ridiculously high prices & kept saying things that didn't make sense. Come to find out she mainly dealt with cruises & thought she could swing a destination wedding. Um wrong!

So once again since everyone here loved BBV, we decided to stick it out & try Steve. He turned out to be the biggest jerk of all. He never wanted to do anything!! If you asked him to check with the resort on something or compare a price, he'd give you this looong winded email explaining why it wouldn't work. But if you did it yourself you'd find that it actually was possible.

We figured out that once we signed the contract guaranteeing 50 rooms, he stopped working! DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THESE PEOPLE. He was SO RUDE not only to us but to our guests! We had over 60 people and literally everyone who dealt with him complained to us. EVERYONE! 66 people can't be wrong Steve.

So on cyber Monday Bookit.com had this crazy deal where our resort was half off if everyone booked by midnight. I shot Steve an email to see if he could match the price, since they illegedly did price matching. Instead he gave me this long email basically saying no. (Looking back, once we signed the contract he was not trying to help us. He could care less about getting us a deal because he was getting paid either way). So get this people- 50 of our guests booked with Bookit.com & scored the half price deal (including us). Of course Steve was pissed & he just kept throwing this contract in our face.

I started getting stressed because we needed at least 10 rooms to be booked with BBV or else we'd have to give them $5,000 (insane). But we were torn because we wanted people to be able to afford our wedding weekend. So literally the day before the contract deadline, we had 9 people (who had missed the deal) book through Steve. We couldn't find 1 last person for the life of us. But literally hours before time was up, hubby & I did some intense brainstorming & remembered that with our resort if we book 6 rooms we get an extra free. Aka our 10th room!! When we told Steve there was literally nothing he could say. WE WON (lol). He continued being a jerk to those 9 who booked through him (unfortunately) and didn't even wish us well. There was no "congrats". Once those 9 were booked he just stopped communicating with us. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

So yea, Bookit.com is the way to go people. There staff is SUPER friendly, almost available 24 hours & will never be rude to you. They always have crazy deals going on so check them out!!

  • WOW... I too am using Steve.  I personally haven't had any issues... and he's been super responsive with me... HOWEVER, a few of my guests have recently complained to me saying his customer service hasn't been all that great and that when they wanted to speak to him on the phone he pretty much said he worked via email strictly.

    Unfortunately that caused many of my guests to book on their own and not through BBV.

    Seems like my guests are experiencing the same as your guests....  I feel bad for my guests now....

    Sorry to hear you had a horrible experience with them.  I don't think I signed a contract with BBV guaranteeing a certain # of rooms... I sure hope I didn't!

  • I'd double check your contract Jenn just to make sure! Especially if the penalties are in the thousands! That's crazy!

    I too am using BBV...her name is Missy and I haven't heard a thing from her since I confirmed and made the down payment for the honeymoon and wedding.  I was also a bit put off b/c there were some things she said to us over our skype interview that all of a sudden didn't apply after I'd made the initial payment.  If it was one thing, I could chalk it up to being a miscommunication...but three things is pushing it.  Although the prices she quoted for our resort and two additional resort options for out guests matched or beat the prices I "google searched" myself, some of my guests are going through other travel sites and staying at resorts not offered by BBV which are very close to where our wedding is, way cheaper yet still quality resorts.  What I am getting at is I understand why you are frustrated with them.  What an awful experience!

    p.s. soo glad that you WON and left him speechless on that note re the rooms! HA! lol

  • Thanks Brit... I already talked to my BBV agent and he was very helpful and did confirm that we didn't have a contract.

    Ugh he's still at it. He's quick to respond but after awhile you realize he's not really saying anything. If a better deal comes around, he won't tell you or try & help you. I really hopr things work out with you & your guests but if you didn't sign a contact you're free to find better deals yourself
  • Oh man that really stinks that your TA was so awful =( At least you were able to find a cheaper option for your guests and ended up not being penalized for it ! That was the main reason we never used a TA because I found better accommodations for better prices that did not sell through TAs. It ends up being more stressful b/c we are acting as TA's for our guests...but better for us because we got to pick what we loved at an awesome price to help out our guests.

  • I am glad that I read this thanks for posting.  After reading all the postive reviews on BBV I was going to contact them as well.  Now, I am questioning my decision..
