WWYD - FIs Ring - POLL

I'm seriously gonna lose my mind!

Yesterday FI tried his ring on and guess what... it was REALLY tight!!!  So tight that it has me a little worried that if his fingers swell a little in the heat in DR his ring won't fit at all...

The problem is that his ring is tungsten w/ diamonds which means it's a special order that takes a while to come in AND it can't be resized.

I called the Jewelery store and they are going to try and rush order  one in to see if it comes in by tuesday but FI insists he's going to lose some weight and it will fit fine.  (He has also been saying he's going to lose weight for the past 8 months...  I think he may have lost only like 2 llbs :()

He said we should get a cheap band for him to use in the meantime... my issue with that is that it kind of sucks that we spent so much money on his ring and it won't even be used on our day or in our pictures.

  • I'd say he should get a temp ring just in case for the actual wedding if his doesn't fit while you are down there and if he really is serious about loosing weight. You can still use the tungsten ring for all the ring pictures.

If they can get the bigger size in in time, then that would be ideal, but don't stress about it.

  • Once again I am unable to vote for some reason...

Did the jewelry store say they will TRY to get one in on Tuesday or will they definitely be able to get it in...if its definite and you are able to make an even exchange then go for the new one.

Since FI has not lost much weight in the past several months, maybe you should go ahead and order a new one in a bigger size anyway so that you know he will definitely fit into it when you guys get back and he can wear it freely w/o worrying about needing to lose weight for it to fit.  In this case, I would use a temporary ring for the wedding.

if you get a different band all together can you exchange the current ring for what you paid?  will that new ring even arrive on time?

  • I say get a temp just in case. Plan on using the original ring but bring both. See how the orignial fits when you get to DR and then go from there!

  • I voted for a temp ring too.  Try this site. (Clicky)  You can get the rings for free, you just pay shipping.  The code that I found that works is 245234.  People have reviews for them all on TK and other places.

  • I guess the temp ring is the loigical way to go, but it's the least of the ideas that I like lol

I'm not opposed to a temp ring for him to wear after we are married but I really think that the ring he wears for the ceremony should mean something and not just be a stand in ;(  I think that's why I'm having a really hard time with this and can't make a decision.

GRRR... I wish I could just let it go and not be bothered by it...

  • You could use the real one for the ceremony, but you might not be able to get it fully on his finger. Not that big of a deal. I've seen that happen before, the bride puts the ring on, but doesn't want to struggle getting it on, then the groom deals with it after the ceremony. If that were the case then he could just switch to the other ring after the ceremony.

From what I hear people go the a 90 minute presentation for something and get a code.  What I posted is one of the codes that someone got.

  • It's a tough call Jen, and only one you can make. As PP's said, using the temp is just an absolute last resort just in case the replacement doesn't show up on time? I would hate for you to be stressing over this when you get down there, he doesn't lose the weight and the replacement ring isn't ready.

Which would be the less stressful option for you and your future husband?  :)

  • I think I would get a temp and bring the real one too. More than likely he is going to be able to wear it for the ceremony and it will be all good =) And if it is uncomfortable the rest of the time he can wear his temp !

  • We were both really worried about our rings possibly not fitting with the heat and chance of swelling but honestly our fingers never swelled and we were there 5 days before the ceremony, drinking and eating a lot. I think you will be okay!!! Just try not to let FI eat too much salt and drink tons of water!

  • Thank you all for the advice... we got some good news at the store today.. they have the exact ring in a slightly bigger size in stock "somewhere" that they are going to rush to the store so that it arrives by Tuesday.  Then FI can decide which ring fits better.

We are also going to get him a temp ring regardless just incase.  We always said we would for times when he didn't want to  wear the diamond ring, so we might as well do it now.

Hopefully this helps us cover all bases lol
