Where to have my destination wedding!!??

Hello Everyone!
This is my first time writing and I hope someone can help! We are planning our destination wedding for December 2012 and only inviting our closes friends and immediate family. We have been researching for a couple of months and I was hoping to get some opinions about the resorts in Mexico, Jamaica and DR. We want to keep the costs down for our guests because we want as many of them to come as possible, however, we still want our wedding to be really nice and special!
So far we are leaning towards Dreams Cancun but, I want to hear where others were married/are getting married and your experiences. I think it is important for us to be in an area with a lot of nightlife so our friends stay entertained during their vacation. Any recomendations would be great... If there is another post about this somewhere let me know that, too ~ sorry I am kind of a newbie!
Thank you!

Re: Where to have my destination wedding!!??

  • I've never been anywhere myself (sounds kinda crazy considering I'm having a DW), but Trip Advisor helped me in picking my location and FI used to vaca A TON before we met, so he narrowed down our resort.

So I say check out Trip Advisor for reviews :)

  • hiii!

We are getting married at the Cancun Palace.  It's part of the Palace Resorts chain and is in...you guessed it, Cancun!

It is going to be approx. $2000 for a couple to fly down for 4 days.  It's an all inclusive resort so those covers all food and alcohol/drinks for their entire stay.  They will also have 3 other resorts that they can go have fun at (Moon, Sun, & Beach Palaces).  Also, depending on their length of stay, they get better $500-1500 "Vacation Dollars" that can be used on excursions, room upgrades, romantic beach dinners, upgraded wine, or at the spa.

We're going for 10 days and are spending less then $5000.  Also, they have group booking incentives...if we book 25+ rooms, we get 7 nights complimentary AND unlimited private functions (YAY reception!).

We stayed there in 2005 and it's been my favorite out of the places we've been (Cancun, St Thomas, Aruba, and Puerto Rico.  in 2005 after we went, hurricane Wilma hit and damaged some of the hotel I guess and the beach, but since then they have done a full renovation of the resort, and the beach has even been fixed some.

If there is anything else I can help with you, just let me know!

    Congrats and Welcome!
  • I have stayed at Sun Palace in Cancun which is adults only but had access to Moon, Beach, and Cancun Palace.  I think Cancun Palace would be best due to location.  Moon Palace is way off the beaten path and Sun Palace almost as much so.  Both Cancun and Beach are in the Hotel Zone and just a short walk, bus ride, or cab ride to just about anything.  If you are looking for action then I definitely think Cancun is the place.

I'm actually looking at Playacar Palace after talking with Melissa at Beach Bum Vacations just today.  After talking it seems that the Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen area is better for what we want (more laid back, less clubs, more intimate, less commercial).  Like Kayla said.....you can get incentives when your guests book but to do this you have to book all ltogether with the same source (a travel agent).  I'd recommend Melissa at Beach Bum for sure!!!!

If you click on weddings at the top and then click on group benefits you'll see what you can get.  We are booking 14 days ourselves and after 15 days get booked we get a free, private, cocktail reception!  Also, if you look at their free wedding package it includes a TON in comparison to other resorts.  We plan to do this and then use part of our $2000 credit (for booking 2 weeks) towards one of their photography packages.

Also, here is the website for Beach Bum - http://www.beachbumvacation.com/
  • Hey! I am also getting married in Cancun next week!  Ahhh!  Anyways, we are getting married at The Royal Cancun but went on a site visit to Moon Palace and Dreams Cancun.  If you click on my bio in the signature line and go to the destination tab, I have quite a few pictures of our site visit at Dreams.  We LOVE Cancun because it is the best of everything - beach, sun, luxury, and fun!  Good luck planning and let me know if you have any questions about our site visit or The Royal Cacun's wedding packages.  Btw, the guests are so excited for the very reason you mentioned - they get to go out and have fun :)

The website for the The Royal is www.realresorts.com. Follow the link to The Royal Cancun.  Good luck!
  • Welcome!  I'm no help with your locations as I'm getting married in Sarasota, FL to save some costs!  As you see there are many helpful ladies here!  I look forward in hearing about your planning process and where you decide to have your wedding!  Congrats again and hope you stick around!  :)
  • Hi and welcome.  I can't help much as we're getting married in New Zealand.  Best of luck w/ all of your plans.
