Tanning

When should i start tanning? Im white & the wedding is aug 20, i might get some natural sun this summer but its WA so im certain i'll need to hit up the tanning salon. Do the fancy beds make any difference? I usually in the past just do the conventional beds. Any advice?

Re: Tanning

  • I personally thing the conventional beds work well..especially with good lotions!  I always start with the basic beds, starting as low as like 4 minutes and increasing minute by minute.

After I start with them, I will sometimes upgrade to the upper beds that have more bronzing in them just to get a little more color, but that's really the only reason I switch.  I'd say mid-June you should start at the latest so you can gradually get color!

I do the stand up beds because I hate white arm pits :)  I just finished a month and I'm probably good to go, but I'm going to take 2 weeks off and then do another 2 before we leave.  It's just too hot here to lay out otherwise I would get some real sun.

I would do real sun until beg of July and then go.
  • I started back in Dec.  But that's bc I normally go in the winter anyway.  I was only going 1-2x a week.  Then the last month I bumped it up to a few more days a week.  I made Matt go and he was PAST-E and he got a decent base tan in just a month.  I don't think the place he went was very good bc he got up the full 20 mins in like 10 visits.

I would say if you tan pretty easily you could start a month or two before the wedding.  If not I might go ahead and just slowly work your way up.

Also I just do the basic lay down beds.  I don't really bother upgrading and stuff.
  • Thanks ladies! Im cheap so maybe i will start in july and just go often.

Yeah, I buy the unlimited month or whatever and I literally go 5-6 times a week. I get my freaking moneys worth. one week, I even went every day.

  • Ehhhhh us WA girls always have to use the tanning beds! I started in January for my April 30th wedding. And I used the Medium beds they help build color faster

  • Oh and I did the Versa Spa spray tan before we left for the wedding too.

  • Personally, i like the stand up ones better because i feel like they give you a better even tan. since i have a big butt, the beds always burn it.

spike~ Im really sorry to hear that.
  • :( I would love to use tanning beds, but like spike said, I'm afraid of the risks. Cancer is very prevalent in my family, and skin cancer being one of the big beasts. I'm going to get some sort of natural tan before I go, but if I'm white, I'm white. That's just me :)
  • ugh...I know it scares the crap outta me and I am always the one at the beach slathering on the spf 45 sun block. I hear its worse if you burn. I have some moles that I am paranoid about and always think are cancer but my dr. said they're fine. I am hoping that one month of tanning for the wedding won't give me cancer though! I don't plan to make a routine outta it.

It's of course always a risk, but I feel the same way.  I'd much rather have control over my tanning (via a bed) then to be out in the sun and get burned.  Carribean sun is so intense that it doesn't take long and even with a tan, if you aren't careful you can still get burned, but it's not nearly as bad as a little base tan.

The good thing is that you are aware of the spots on your body and can watch them to see if they change...a lot of people don't do this!
