Our wedding was on May 1st at Aventura Spa Palace in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. Their was some good, bag, and ugly though...
Start with the ugly:
our flight was great, we got picked up by our shuttle and got to the resort, went to check in and they didn't have our reservation! Before we left we checked with our TA and our vacation company (westJet - an extremely reputable company in canada, 2nd biggest airline here too, and they pride themselves on the best customer service) about a reservation number for the hotel, and they both said no its taken care of the resort knows you are coming.
At the resort we checked under our guests names (some were coming the next day and the rest were coming 2 days later) and they had no information for them either!! At this point we were stressed and Brad was getting pissed, we asked if we could use the phone (a perk at the resort was free long distance calling to canada, USA and mexico) to call our TA, but they said no because we weren't a guest at the hotel...grrr. So we had to turn on our cell to call our TA back home and got her working on it. Then I dropped the name of our WP at the resort and it took her about an hour but she came to the front and convinced them we were a guest at the resort, but our room wasnt ready yet lol. so we got to wander the resort and get some food (we ate breakfast like 8 hours before so we were starving!)
The next day 6 of our guests showed up and there rooms were spread all over the resort. Seriously? WTF? So we called our TA from our room again and told her about it. We booked 9 months prior to the wedding date because we wanted a group of rooms close together. Eventually a westjet representative came to make sure all the rest of the rooms were together and moved everyone else to our building.
WE just expected way more service since it was our wedding...
Bad:
the wedding planner lost our wedding info and we had to go back to her office the day before the wedding and hash everthing out again, fun stuff!
The officiant was English, and was terrible, we asked for non-religious ceremony and everyother word out of her mouth was prayers and God, not our style at all! She also said my name (first and last) wrong the entire time (after asking Brad before the ceremony how to say our names) then introduced us with the last name wrong. My dad half way through the ceremony corrected the lady and she still kept saying my name wrong. The entire time Brad and I just talked to each other and ignored what she was saying
Good:
Our friends set up the ceremony space and reception location absolutely perfectly! Way nicer then I imagined it! My hair and makeup turned out perfectly. our music we used a BOSE portable ipod dock ($450 ish) and is was more then loud enough, I would suggest it if you aren't interested in a DJ. We made our own playlist for the ceremony and reception.
My dress travelled prefect also, the seamstress told me to wrap it in tissue paper then I put it in the plastic garment bag in the fabric garment bag, it had no wrinkles or anything. I also had an entire overhead bin in the plane to myself.
The weather was perfect the entire trip and the wedding day! It was great travelling with a group, everytime you turned the corner you ran into someone!
We did end up having a great time despite how it started!
