I stopped wearing my school ring after we got engaged because it was unplated white gold and looked really ugly/lame compared to my beautiful sparkly rhodium plated white gold diamond engagement ring.
Today I stopped by our jeweler to ask a few questions and decided to drop off my school ring (which has been sitting in the bottom of my purse waiting for me to do this for weeks) to get polished and rhodium plated.
Here are some before pictures comparing the school ring to my engagement ring, notice the dull yellow color and how scratched it is:
And well, let me tell you-- I freaked out when I saw it. In an hour they took this ring from a waste of $600 to something absolutely beautiful! I LOVE it so much more than I did when I first got it! And there isn't a sign of a single scratch on the thing! It's BEAUTIFUL!
I wear these rings on separate hands but I have them next to each other for comparison purposes:
I am so pleased! Best $40 I've spent in a long time because I now love my school ring and will actually wear it!
I'm also pretty amazed because 1 week into me having the thing I got a pretty deep ding in it and I sent it back to the people we bought it from to get the scratch buffed out... and it came back looking better, but not perfect. Fast forward two years to this morning and the thing is completely scratched on all sides... yet when I pick it up after the polish and rhodium plating there isn't a single scratch to be seen on the entire ring.
I'm really truly amazed! I can't wait to get the spa treatment for my engagement ring before the wedding
