Destination Weddings Discussions

New here with a couple of question!!

Hi!
Just a little intro, My names andrea im engaged to tony we have a 10 month old son.. and we have been engaged for 10 months! He propsed the day our son was born. We have been together.. going on 8 years in april.
So here our a few of my questions!

What made you deside that you wanted to have a destination wedding?
Orginally I wanted to have to have a big weddings with all the bells and whistles, and just a great celebration. But now, starting to plan it and everyone pissing me off.. I think i just want to have a destination wedding. I have a good idea of the people that would go, and I think we will plan it for next year so thats gives everyone plenty of time.

I have NO idea where to even look to have said destination wedding! I haven't been out of the country since i was like 14, and i just cant even think of where to have one. I would like something at a resort, like a all enclusive.. any ideas? Thanks!

I was also thinking about vegas.. is there any all inclusive resorts in vegas? Im thinking all inclusive because then we won't have to worry about buying food etc.
Any tips would be greatly apperciated!!!

Re: New here with a couple of question!!

  • Congrats and welcome! We have a few Vegas brides here but I don't believe any Vegas hotels are all inclusive. I was there a few years ago and never saw one. If you want an all inclusive beach wedding there are tons of places to choose from! A lot of the ladies here use Beach Bum Vacations. They helped they find a place in their budget. I'm eloping to Hawaii so I'm not much help. I did go to 2 all inclusive resorts in Mexico, one in Cancun and one in Cabo, and they were great! Can't wait to hear where you decide to go!

  • To answer your question I decided to have a destination wedding because, it just seemed easier.  After my FI proposed, I started thinking about all of those that would have been offended that they were not invited. We grew up in the same church and those that I don't know he knows. That would have been the entire church.

I also knew that destination wedding are least expensive. I would like to have a beautiful wedding without worry about debt.

As far as places to have a wedding. I know there is are a couple of all-inclusive resorts. I am getting Married at Majestic Resorts in PuntaCana, Dominican Republic, which is all-inlcusive. I have a travel agent who deals with the payments of me and my guest. She also, sent us a list and that is how we knew who RSVP.

As far as VAGAS, there was one resort that a friend sent me when I decided to do a destination wedding it was called Madalay Bay. I have heard great things about it. Actually, they have a picture of a ceremony happening in an under water cave, it is absolutly beautiful. Link below

  • Vegas bride here. There are no all inclusive resorts in Vegas, but you can find all inclusive wedding packages. Like one PP suggested, Mandalay Bay has several (that is where we are getting married) as well as Caesars, Paris, and Planet Hollywood. I would suggest perusing a few resorts' websites to see what you can find. Also the Vegas local board is very active and very helpful.

We chose a DW because it would be simpler and cheaper than trying to host the big shindig at home. We chose Vegas because it would be cheaper for our guests to travel to. Our total budget is 10K and we are hosting 50 people.

Hope that helps, let me know if you need advise on where to start looking!

  • We chose a DW because we wanted to get married on the beach.  From the first day that we started talking marriage it was always the beach.  Plus we both alreay had huge weddings for our first marriages and we wanted something very small and intimate.  After going back and forth ALOT, we finally settled on FL where my parents have a house.

My advice is to check with the family member that you really want atthe wedding and explain to them about the DW.  See if they are willing to go.  You will have to set your priorities and go from there.

PS Welcome to the board.  We can't wait to hear more about the planning.  Don't be afraid to jump into posting.  :)

  • We chose a DW because, like you, we were getting increasingly frustrated and stressed about having a local wedding.  We both looked at a map of the world and said "Ireland" at the same time. We did our research and found a package that we fell in love with.  It took almost a year and a half to plan and save $$ but it was worth it.  Our wedding day was exactly what we wanted and neither of us would change a single thing.

Where did you get married in ireland??
  • Welcome and contrats!!  Another Vegas bride here.  Vegas doesn't have any all-inclusive hotels, but some places do offer all-inclusive wedding packages (same thing bbuckner said)

If you're looking for a hotel stay that's all-inclusive beach resorts are going to be your best bet.

We were planning a big wedding here and it became more important about everyone else than it did about us.  We cancelled our wedding here and decided on a DW, every step of the way it's been about what FI and I want, no what other people want.
  • We chose a DW because my FI and I love to travel, we wanted a beach wedding and we wanted something very intimate with an amazing setting/energy. It just fit us as a couple. We are having a really big party when we return to celebrate our marriage (2 weeks after the wedding).

For all inclusive I would look to the Caribbean. They have a ton...Jamaica and DR seem to be the most affordable places. Lots of flights and lots of resorts to chose from.
