First Dance

I was thinking about our first dance last night... and I have a 2 part question.

1st: I was wondering if we should "practice" it. Are you practicing your first dance or doing coreography?  FI and I are doing 2... well I guess then they aren't first dances right lol we are doing 1 first dance (before dinner) and then a dance alone (A latin bachata) to kick off the dance party. I wonder if it would look better if we planned out how we were going to dance.

2nd:  Our 1st dance song is in spanish and not all our guest speak spanish or are familiar with the song.  I love the lyrics so I wanted to translate them for our guests.  I was originally thinking of putting them in a frame on each table.  But now that I'm considering doing the same style program as Brit (thanks again for the inspiration) I'm wondering if I should just make one of the pages the lyrics to our song.  Thoughts?

Re: First Dance

  • What are you doing for table decorations? It might be a nice addition to the table... but then not everyone might be able to look at it on the table (they might have to crowd around)? Would it be a big deal to do both? Hmmm...

I think we'll definitely plan our dance just to make sure it looks OK. I'm not coordinated at all so it's a must! :)

The only thing that I think would be hard with doing it on your creemony program is what if people lose them or don't bring them to the reception then they wouldn't have it.  I like the idea of having them on the tables at the reception some how.  Or you could have a bm hand out a piece of paper with the translated lyrics before you begin dancing so you know people will have them?

As far as our first dance I think we will practice like in our living room but we are not taking lessons or anything.

  • We're not bothering with planning our dance lol if it gets weird, or someone steps on someone's toe, thats just who we are :) We're doing it to share that moment as a couple, not as entertainment for our guests, and even if we were that would be more entertainment I think lol

I agree with Lora, you could do both, especially if you're worried about people crowding around it on the table. If you have enough going on with your centrepiece I'd just put it in the program.
  • We've practiced our's some. But, it's really the beginning we are trying to get down with his hand going out to me on a certain beat and I taking his hand on another beat. Then we just dance.

We put the translation to words in our program to the song being performed at the end of the ceremony since it's in Hawaiian. I think it's a good place for it and gives guests something to read while they wait for the ceremony to start.
  • I like putting in the program ! I think that is a very cute idea. I love having stuff to read while I am waiting for the ceremony to stay.

We are not practicing we are just going with the flow =) We are also doing a dance at the AHR but the band is playing it so it will be difficult to practice. I might see if they can do a recording of the song ... not sure.
