DIY Projects?

How many of you started off your planning process thinking that DIY was not for you because you were not 'creative'?   I totally did, and boy has that changed!  I have ended up with more DIY projects than I ever would have imagined!  I even had to cut one because I just don't have the time for it.

Here is the latest thing that I am working on.  I am currently finalizing the template with the seller and then once I have that is finalized I will need to print, cut and assemble the fans!

What DIY projects are you all currently working on?

Re: DIY Projects?

  • Nice! I really like the program fans, and keep going back and forth on whether I want to do that or not.

I need to figure out what I'm going to DIY. Definitely doing welcome bags. Might do programs- haven't decided if I'm just going to skip them. Our ceremony will be really short, so I'm inclined to not do them. I may do "Wedding Weekend programs" listing out the events of the weekend (ceremony, reception, welcome cocktail party, etc.). Can't make up my mind!

Semi related question: How did people or how are people planning on getting stuff to the destination if you're flying? Especially bulkier stuff like welcome bags, etc? We're checking luggage, and luckily beach wear doesn't take up much luggage space, but I keep worrying about it.

  • I am lucky enough that my parents are driving down to Key West and are taking my dress as well as a few other items!  I may also ship a few things to our resort.  I feel a little more comfortable with the shipping since we are within the US, otherwise I might get a little nervous to do so.  But it does sound like most girls pack up all their stuff in the luggage!

I felt the same way about programs and I did not want to spend much money on them!  That is why I went with this option, I should be able to get them done for about $50 total!

Glad to know Im not the only one who wants to do a program for the whole weekend instead of just the half hour ceremony!
I'm really crafty but I am scared of the cost of sending things to Jamacia! You all sound like there is so much that can be DIY. My mom did some table thingys for a wedding a few years ago because the materials were so cheap here but sending them was over $100.

  • I am also torn on programs. I think I'm going to ditch them. Our wedding party is 3 people and we have 8 guests so it seems kind of pointless...pretty sure our parents will know who our wedding party is lol.

I think I'm going to just do raffia fans. I don't even know what else I'm doing. I feel like our ceremony needs some more personalization but I'm SO not crafty or creative....and I'm running out of time fast!
  • I am not a DIY person, BUT those starfish boutonnieres i saw the other day seemed easy enough for even me. And oh so cute! I probably won't do anything else. But you all need to stop posting cute pics of your stuff-- it keeps giving me ideas. :)

<div>Yah, our ceremony is going to be so short, and I"m not sure if we'll have an opportunity to go through the ceremony with the officiant until we get there anyway. I figure I'll print up programs on nice paper for the whole weekend, and put them in the welcome bags. I still really like the fan programs though, and sometimes want to do them anyway :) </div>

  • Hey ladies, I've ended up doing a lot of diy projects, and still working in more... Jenny, i posted the bout's, they were easy and if you need help shout out- I'm more than happy! I've honestly had so much fun making everything I'm thinking of opening an etsy shop.. Any thoughts? As far as getting everything there, we're just packing it all. We will prob have an extra suitcase but as long as it stays under 50 lbs it's only $40 and a lot cheaper then shipping things there.

  • I made my first hair fascinator yesterday. That was fun. This week I start making my practice dress.
