Today's Retro DW Knottie of the Day

I'm know I'm posting this late, but I really want to get this out there.

Lindsay was not able to participate in the KOTD before her wedding came and went. However, there's no discrimination on the DW board and when she asked if could do the questions, I sent them to her and she filled them out. Anyone past or present or even future should be able to participate in the KOTD...so why not. So without further ado....

So today's retro dw knottie of the day is lrmain!!!

Congrats on your wedding!!!

1. First Name & Fiance's First Name: Lindsey & Jeff

2. Your Age and Fiance's Age: 25/26

3. What city were you born in?: Westchester, NY.  I spent my early formative years in a big house surrounded by woods with a reservoir in the backyard where my dad used to catch fish.  Secret Little Lindsey dream is to someday own that house again.  Since then, I've lived in Pennsylvania, Western New York, North Carolina, and now Vermont.

4. What city do you live in?: Burlington, VT!  And what an awesome city it is.  Haven't made it to the month mark quite yet, but we already love it here.

5. Where did you go to college?: Rochester Institute of Technology for undergrad.  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my masters.  And now, sadly, I am already thinking about going back for my second masters!  Oh no!

6. What was your major?: Undergrad was International Studies, grad school was Library Science.  Yep, you need a masters to be a librarian!

7. What is your current job?: Faculty librarian at a small private college in Burlington.  I only just started, but I already love it.  A lot of what I do is exploratory research, keeping up with technologies that might be able to help the library staff connect with students and do our jobs better.  I am the ambassador to the growing masters programs, most of which are 100% online and serve primarily adult learners.  I'll be working with the graduate faculty to address information literacy issues and to get the library more involved in these programs.  I'm also part of a team of teaching librarians that works together to develop and assess instruction sessions for students, which I'm super excited about!  And then finally, more traditional "reference" stuff, answering research questions at the desk and scheduling in-depth sessions with students and faculty.  Many hats to wear, but I love it!  I love having tons of different kinds of things to do.

8. What is your dream job?: I probably already have it!  I seriously hit the jack-pot with my job.  It's exactly what I want to do in one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.  All things held constant, if I could do absolutely anything, I would either steal Anthony Bourdain's job and travel around the world  eating lots of amazing food with my husband, or I would be an opera singer.  That's right, you heard me.

9. How did you and your fiance' meet?: It was one part meddling little sister, one part the power of the Interwebs.  I had a nasty break-up my junior year in college, and my sister took it upon herself to get me out of my funk.  She made me an online profile on OKCupid, which was both hilarious and embarrassing to watch her do, haha.  I kept it up for a while just to see what would happen, and amidst the interminable dross and fifty-year-olds-hoping-for-daddy-issues that messaged me was DH.  He didn't even send me a real email; there's a "woo" function where you click a button and it sends a canned message.  But he was super cute and lived only an hour away in Buffalo, so I figured why the heck not?  We stayed up all night chatting for a time, then moved to the phone, then agreed to meet in person (which is a pretty great story in and of itself).  I thought it was going to be a rebound/fun summer fling.  Now, here we are, nearly 5 years later, happily married.

10. When did you get engaged, and how did he do it??: We got engaged last xmas.  He took me to the gazebo where we went on our first date.  We talked in that gazebo for hours that day, but he didn't kiss me!  So he made up for it when he proposed.  It was a blustery winter day, but the sun came out when he got down on one knee in the snow to pop the question.  Then we had a kiss in our gazebo.  :)  The best part was running around telling his family afterward.  Everyone was so happy because it had been such a long time coming.  His dad took us out for a steak dinner to celebrate, hehe.  We went back for our e-pics this past summer, which is a big part of why I'm so in love with them.

11. When is the Wedding Day?: October 3, 2011 at 3pm, we were married!

12. Where is the ceremony and reception?: Bear Mountain Inn in Waterford, Maine.  A seriously beautiful place.  It was so homey and cozy, relaxed and rustic.  Perfect for our wedding.  We had a picnic reception with everyone grilling burgers and hotdogs outside in the beautiful weather.

13. What are your wedding colors?: Navy blue, and otherwise fall colors.  Navy blue came from my sister's MOH dress.  We didn't have a lot of decorations or details, so we didn't really have wedding colors.

14. Where are you honeymooning?: Not sure yet!  We stayed an extra day for our weddingmoon at the Inn, but we had so many other life things going on that we opted to hold off on the honeymoon.  We initially wanted to traipse around Maine some more, but I'm glad the plans never fully developed.  It's great that we have another fun, exciting thing to plan in the future.  We're hoping to go somewhere for a nice trip around this time next year.  Austria and Maui are our two #1s right now (thanks to all of the Maui press from brides on this board!).

15. Favorite wedding vendor so far?: It's a toss-up between our photographer, Jennifer Allis Photography, and our officiant, Ellie Bowie of Enchantment Wedding Services.  Jennifer's work is stunning and she's such a sweetheart; it was a privilege to have her share our day with us.  Ellie worked with me to create the perfect ceremony for our wedding.  She felt like an old family friend, and I loved working with her.  She made the part I'd previously been so nervous about so easy!

16. Biggest wedding splurge?: Also our photographer.  Wedding photos were one of the most important things to me at our wedding, especially since we weren't having our whole families in attendance.  Our wedding bands were also pretty pricy.  We didn't want to make additions or "upgrade" later.  Preserving that sentimentality was really important to us, so we made them a big investment now.

17. What is something you wish you could have at the wedding but don't?: I wish some of our dear friends could've been there.  But we kept it small in an attempt to appease the masses, and because neither of us wanted a very big wedding.

18. Another Knottie whose wedding you'd like to attend?: Oh, gosh.  I wish I could go to everyone's weddings!  I'd love to see how all of the great DIY stuff that Kimmy and Britt are doing end up coming together.  Same with Jen (fsu) and Jen (venus).  And definitely wish I could stow away to attend Leslie's crazy New Zealand wedding!  These are all going to be some fabulously coordinated, awesomely-detailed weddings.  I'd also love to go to Steph's (wolfpayne) wedding.  She and I got to the board at the same time even if we were at vastly different stages of our planning process, so I'm really excited to see everything come together for her.  And, c'mon, would love to get in on that dueling piano action at Brea's AHR.

19. Favorite book?: Jane Eyre.  I'm so lame, such a horrifically sappy romantic.  When we were about two years into our relationship, Jeff and I read each other's favorite books.  His favorite, The Iron Dragon's Daughter, quickly became a favorite of mine.  I also really love Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.  Fascinating and controversial, not to mention he's just a spectacular writer (seriously, read this!). The book that's gotten the greatest number of reads is The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket).

20. Favorite movie?: Shaun of the Dead is, without question, my A#1.  But any B-horror flick is a win.  I love horror movies and creature-features that are so bad, they're good.  I don't watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that often, but it has a special place with me.  And gotta love (the original) Indiana Jones and James Bond movies.

21. Favorite tv show?: Futurama!  Also consistently, Big Bang Theory, Dexter, and Game of Thrones.

22. Favorite wedding dress designer?: Not a clue.  My dress was a Galina from David's.  Loved both it and the price-tag.

23. Any advice you can give to other Knotties whose big day is coming up?: Everyone says it, but seriously: don't sweat the details!  So many things didn't happen on my wedding (the fancy desserts, the s'mores, the programs, the welcome letters, the custom maps, the ceremony music, the wedding bands!..).  In the end, none of it mattered.  We were married, our families were there, I got beautiful photos, and I was so stinkin' happy.

24. Is there anything you wish you could change about your wedding?: The fact that the s'mores didn't happen, ugh!  That was the one thing I was miffed about.  I'd been so excited about it, but my mopey bride self took over and convinced my excited bride self that the weather for our wedding was going to to be terrible so I shouldn't even bother prepping for s'mores.  And then, it got beautiful.  Just goes to show you!  Knowing me, if I'd gotten the stuff for s'mores, it really would've been nasty that day.  So given the choice between the two, I'll take the nice weather ;)

25. Tell us your Knottie name and how you came up with it.: Irmain.  It's nothing exciting or fun. :d  The name I use for many other things is morebetterness.  It's the title of an album from a band I used to like when I was a high school music snob and refused to listen to anything mainstream.  The band didn't last for me, but the username has stuck around.  26. Tell us about yourself!: Hi, I'm Lindsey, and at the end of the day, in spite of everything, I'm living the dream.  I have a husband who loves and supports me, a super-sweet apartment in walking distance of one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, two adorable fur babies, and an awesome job I couldn't be more jazzed about.  I have a penchant for the most ridiculous sh*t that I couldn't possibly make up constantly happening to me, but I always come out alive on the other side.  I'm so thankful you've all been here every step of the way these last few crazy months, and I can't wait to hear about all of your beautiful weddings.  DW love.  <3
