At home reception at a bar

Is this tacky ? We have reserved a bar downtown for our at-home reception because we did not want it to feel like an actual wedding reception, but more of a celebration of our marriage. Now I am starting to fear that it is a little distasteful to have a reception in a bar. Especially since a lot of engagement parties ect. are thrown there.

We liked it because it is a large open space with a stage for a band and a DJ booth. We knew we wanted to be downtown and there was not a lot to chose from that could hold 250 people. At first I thought reserving a wedding reception space would look tacky...but now I am thinking the bar is going to look tacky. AHHHHH !

Anyone else doing this ?

I went to one at a bar and we had a BLAST.... it wasn't an AHR either, it was their actual reception after a local wedding.

First, there's nothing wrong about doing it at a bar.

Second, there's nothing tacky about having an AHR at a wedding reception site. Ours was and it was great.

It sounds like it’s a huge bar! I really don’t think it’s tacky. Unless it’s like a super dive bar, ha, but I don’t know any dive bars that can hold 250 people.

Yes it is a really big open bar... And it specializes in private events which is nice. But I am now wishing I went with the reception site that is now booked =(

The good thing is we are able to do whatever we want to the bar...so we can make it look nice with decor

Sounds like a great place! I'm sure you'll have a great time there and it's cool that you can do whatever you want to it!

I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all! We are having our's at home, but we have a bar in our basement.

That we do. Does your date have any significance? It's our 5 yr anniversary.  We figured we'd just keep the date.

We met on 4th of July weekend in 2006...and then we got engaged on 4th of july weekend in 2011

We are having our AHR in a bar. A dive bar. It's where we met.

Not tacky at all! Dive bar or no dive bar, sound like fun to me! FI and I met at a dive bar as well, too bad it closed after we actually started dating. We were regulars there and it would be kinda cool to go there now as an engaged couple!
