?s for those getting married without guests

Who is getting married privately?  I am just curious as to how the whole wedding day goes down.  Sure it can be whatever you want, but I'd like to see what others have done.  I've been looking at "elopements" on SMP and GWS and there's usually a text about how that day went down.  Some went ice skating, some had a picnic, some went sightseeing, some read vows to each other in private (married themselves?, not sure how that works).  What did you do or what do you have planned?

What did you do in the morning of the wedding?
When you got ready, was it separately or together?
How did you walk down the aisle - bride alone to meet FI, or together?
Did you get photos before, during and after the ceremony?
How long was your ceremony?
What did you do right after the ceremony?
Did you have a private reception?  What was it like?  A meal?  A first dance?

  • I'm eloping so I can help you! The morning of we plan to get breakfast in bed then after i shower I'm headed to the Salon downstairs (unless I change my mind again). At that time FI will shower. Salon apt 8am ceremony at 10 am so not much time wasted there. I will then go back up to the room and just ask him not to look when i come in to finish getting ready. I believe I will be walking alone to meet FI, I never asked that ? But that's how I would like it. Photos are during and after ceremony plus I booked an extra photo shoot at sunset. I'm not sure how long the ceremony is. Probably not that long. We do get a toast and then aft pics are taken we have a 2 hour limo ride to view the island. We will then come back for lunch. From lunch till 2nd photoshoot I have no idea what we will do. I can't mess my hair or makeup so no naps and no drunk 2nd photo shoot so no drinks either. Maybe just relax on our balcony. After the 2nd photo shoot we will have a nice romantic dinner somewhere. I hope this helps!

  • Yes thank you!

Will your dinner be private or at a restaurant?  Will you keep your dress on?

Look at this pretty little elopement.  She had a planner stylize it all.  I wonder what something like that runs price wise.  I am scared to ask!  I'm guessing that people who want planners to do this for them don't really consider money LOL.

I will check that out when I get home. Websites are so hard to look at on my phone. If I could find a place that will let us have a private beach dinner or something like that at a resonance price I will do that. I haven't looked into it though, otherwise we will just go to a nice restaurant. I'm definately keeping my dress on, too much money to wear for just a short time!

  • H and I got married privately

What did you do in the morning of the wedding?
We woke up (in our venue, which was a castle, so that was fricken awesome :P), snuggled, showered, went downstairs for breakfast, relaxed for a bit in the lounge and had tea.  Our photographer arrived and I went to get my hair and make up done.

When you got ready, was it separately or together?
    We did get ready together.

How did you walk down the aisle - bride alone to meet FI, or together?
    We walked down together

Did you get photos before, during and after the ceremony?
All of the above. We had to work around the weather and it rained off and on and we wanted a lot of pictures of the castle grounds.

    How long was your ceremony?
I think it was about 20 minutes total - we did vows, rings and a unity candle.

What did you do right after the ceremony?
We took pictures and relaxes for a bit in the lounge until dinner

Did you have a private reception?  What was it like?  A meal?  A first dance?
We had dinner in a private dinning room - it was AMAZING! it was a full three course meal and fondue for dessert.  We didn't have a first dance.

All in all, the day went by super fast but it was the most stress-free day of my life. We're both really happy we decided to have a private wedding.

Elle that sounds awesome!  Where was this castle?  I'm trying to check out your old posts...

Was it a vacation before and after for you?

I searched for Elopements on www.intimateweddings.com and there are a ton of hits if anyone wants to see inspiration.

Our venue was Ashford Castle in Cong, Ireland. We spent a total for 2 weeks in Ireland and the wedding was bascially in the middle of it. We used a co-ordinator from Waterlily Weddings for all the wedding related plans. I could never imagine having a traditional wedding now; our day was absolutely perfect :)

  • Not married yet, but here is my plan:

What did you do in the morning of the wedding? We plan on spending the morning together relaxing.

When you got ready, was it separately or together? We're getting ready together. With only 6 rooms on the whole island, there isn't much room for otherwise!

How did you walk down the aisle - bride alone to meet FI, or together? we're walking together, but there really isn't an aisle per se

Did you get photos before, during and after the ceremony? All of the above, but maybe only for an hour after the ceremony

How long was your ceremony? It will be about 15 minutes

What did you do right after the ceremony? We'll take some pictures and then go back to the room to change

Did you have a private reception?  What was it like?  A meal?  A first dance? We're having a private reception on the beach. We are having a meal specially made for us and I'll also have my Blackberry there to play our song so we can dance but in private!

  • That sounds lovely too Jells!  I can picture a private dinner on the beach.

Which island has only 6 rooms total?
  • We're getting married on Wilson Island in Australia (pic in siggy). It's a small island, so only one resort and 6 rooms in that resort. It was just featured in a CNN article on Tuesday as one of the world's best wedding venues! I was so excited to see that! The price they list is a little misleading though- it includes accommodations and transfers, but only for the minister for one night!

  • Thanks for the info everyone, I'm not married yet either but was wondering about all of this. We arent getting married completely private, my brother and sister law are coming with. So far we have decided to get ready separately. We are getting married at sunset so our wedding isn't until 4pm. My sister in law and I will go to the salon and I will get my hair and make up down and we might get our nails done too and my  brother and FI can go to the bar, pool whatever then get ready before we come back. We are getting married on the beach so no aisle, I don't know if we are going to walk together or I'll walk to him. After the ceremony we have a champagne toast and cake then we will all probably go get a nice dinner then drinks. We are there for a whole week after they leave so when they leave we will have a nice dinner on the beach and all that good stuff.
  • I am so fascinated with remote places.

It's pretty interesting to read about living and working on Wilson Island!
