Questions about getting married in Mexico...

I've been reading online that in order to get married in Mexico I have to get a blood test, and wait 3 days from the time I get to Mexico.

I was just curious if this is as big a headache as it seems... Has anyone done this?

Re: Questions about getting married in Mexico...

  • I'm getting married in Mexico but doing the legal ceremony here in the US for that very reason. You do need a blood test and to be there for at least 3 legal days before the wedding. You also have to use their ceremony and it can't be altered in any way. And your marriage certificate will be in Spanish.

We decided to do a "symbolic" ceremony in Mexico and the legal here. Less confusing that way. (:

Oh good idea... So when you celebrate your wedding anniversary are you using the Mexico date?

Where are you getting married in Mexico?

  • You would also need to have all of your documentation translated into Spanish and notarized, I believe.  Your certificate will be in spanish too.

  • We just got married in the Mayan riviera and did our legal ceremony before hand just so we didn't have more stuff to deal with while we were in Mexico. Our wedding in Mexico was the wedding of our smdreams and that is the one we will celebrate! We may still go out for dinner on our legal day as well as our dating anniversary but the Mexico wedding is our actual big celebratory day and we are hoping to take a trip every year for it!
