Getting hair done - no trial or online photos?

I do want to get my hair done for the wedding at the very least (maybe makeup too).

I found a place that is 20 minute drive from our wedding location/lodge.  They do not have any photos of their repertoire, I won't have time to get a trial done, and I just come in with a photo of a style I like.

I'm a little nervous about this!

It is a 4 star hotel and I'll be using their salon and spa service.  It's the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta Canada.  A pretty posh place.

Is this how most DW brides are doing this?  If they are, I will feel a little better!

If it were me, I wouldn't trust it.  Maybe it's just that in my experience and with my hair type I know lots of salons can't handle it.  Some salons also aren't really great at doing up do's.  I am doing my own hair, but I have my mom and sister to help. 

Would it be an option for you to try it on your own?  Start practicing a simple yet elegant 'do?  Maybe youtube some videos that will show you how?

The makeup I'd say yes b/c at least w/ makeup you can have them wipe away if it doesn't work out...w/ the hair, that's a big job to try and get right after getting it wrong the first time.  I am 99% sure that I will have my makeup done at the spa on my resort.

The other option is to drive 1 hour 20 minutes (one way) into the real town on my wedding day, or pay them to come to me which is $200 on top of the $180 hair/make up fee.  I don't think I have very complicated hair though.

How do DW do it then if you want your hair done?  Go by photos only of past styles?  Get a trial while on your vacation?

I do not trust myself to do my own hair.  My bangs turn out different every single day (and not necessarily good), and that's just on normal days!  LOL

Could you maybe try to email them to see if they have any photos they can send you?

I'd be nervous too w/o seeing and pictures. My salon has pix on their site but I'm still nervous. I'm also doing a hair trial at home with my normal stylist just to make sure what I have in mind looks good on my head. I'm planning on taking a bunch of pictures of that to bring to the salon so it's easier to replicate.

I did email them specifically asking for photos or past styles done by those stylist.  They had nothing.  This is a 4 star hotel and spa!

I'll go check out some YouTube videos.  I don't know which makes me more nervous - doing my own hair or going to this salon sight unseen.

I am nervous for you!!!! How about looking at youtube vids and going to salon then you may be able to tweak the hair style if you need to.

I didn't have a trial or anything. I think everything came out great.

have u read any reviews for the salon? if they are good reviews, i wouldnt worry AS much. Id make my appt early tho just in case they mess up

I cannot find any reivews for this spa/salon.  It's technical name is "Escpae Spa and Salon" and it's an Aveda salon, but any review I try to find is of the actual Fairmont Chateau LL hotel itself.

OK we have one bride who's sight unseen salon trip went great!

Maybe I'll will try a few of those YouTube hairdos at home first.

I am not having a hair trial either.  I am going with someone that has a website with photos and reviews though.  Can they give you any referals?

That's a very pretty style!  In the end, if it was my only option I'd go for it and just make sure to communicate what I wanted very well and hope for the best!  If it's not up to par, I have them make it so it is up to par when I leave the chair :-)

I'm having my hair and make-up done at the resort. No trials and I haven't seen any reviews...I picked an "easy" style and I'm giving them plenty of time to get it done. I'm hoping for the best and honestly, I'm not that nervous. Can you call them and talk to the person that will be doing your hair? Maybe you can email them the picture beforehand too!

My resort was a 5 star spa resort in Mexico and I never saw any photos for hair or makeup, I really didn't even think about it! I didn't do a trail either. I brought my own makeup I had it done at sephoras a few weeks before and took pics. I brought pics for my hair (low side bun) and it turned out perfect! It really depends how picky you are but the hair looks like it should be easy for a hairdresser, maybe get some makeup lessons? Definitely send a pic of your hair style to see if they can do it! While you are at it you can ask if they have a portfolio too to send you?

I didn't have a trial, I just showed the stylist a pic. I liked the way it turned out. I didn't care for the top of it but I didn't care enough to have her fix it. I really had no time for a trial and to be quite honest, I didn't want to spend the money.

Not doing a trial either. I want a loose updo and if turns out crappy, I'll put it in a bun and call it a day. Messy bun would work too.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it, but I am pretty low-key when it comes to hair.

OK I attempted a style myself today after some YouTube videos.  All it is is hairspray and bobby pins really.  I'm willing to pay someone sight unseen after attempting this!  They have to be able to do a better job than I did.  If not, I can get away with this idea:
