(kind of) New to the DW board - invites/reception question

Hi ladies.
I have been lingering a bit on this board and I wanted to pose a question to you regarding my DW invites. My FI and I are looking at invitation styles and samples now even though we're sending them in January. This may be a dumb question, but has everyone here had their reception location booked and ready to announce by the time they sent their invites? I ask because we know that many of the people on our guest list aren't attending (they're getting invites anyway in case their situations change!). It seems the number of people who actually come could determine if we host a much nicer dinner reception. Would it be inappropriate for me to only include "reception to follow" on the invite instead of the actual reception location? (I know we'd then need to figure out a way to inform guests of the reception location after invites are sent)
Thanks in advance.

Re: (kind of) New to the DW board - invites/reception question

  • We have our reception booked even though we haven't sent out our invites yet. Our ceremony and reception are at the same resort, so in our case it is okay to say "reception to follow" on our invites. It sounds like it would be way less of a hassle to have those big details figured out before you send your invites, especially if they will have to drive to the reception and is not within walking distance.

    Good luck!

  • If I got an invitation that said "reception to follow", I would assume that the reception (or a cocktail hour) would begin immediately after the ceremony, in the same location. I would honestly wait until you've booked a place before  you do invitations, because then, if it's in a different spot you can either list it on the invitation or include an insert with the information. I think this is an important detail that people need to know.
  • That's what I figured. Not including the location would create more of a hassle in the long run for everyone. Thanks, ladies!
