Shellac question for all of you experts!

How often can you do this? The girl who owns the salon yesterday told me that you should only do it 2-3 times and then give your nails a break switching back to a regular manicure for 2-3 times.

How often do you give your nails a break? How long do you go in between?

Re: Shellac question for all of you experts!

  • I do not go in between, it doesnt hurt your nails, which is one of the benefits of it! :)

    Great question!
  • We had a snow day for work when I read about it online and had to have one and I've done it back to back ever since.  I'm guessing that was late January for early February.  I thought about possibly taking a break after the wedding, but honestly probably won't unless I start to notice problems with my natural nails.

  • I love shellac.  The only time i've seen any evidence of it affecting the health of my nails is when I peel it off instead of soak it off.

I just started getting Shellac and love it. My nails are so strong. I was not told anything about taking a break. They just told me its better than have fake tips because they don't have to glue anything to your nail. This week will be week 3 with them. My nails are so long now. Love them!!!

  • I just got it for the first time and they didn't say I had to get a break.  I guess I'll see how it goes.
  • While we're on the subject of shellac: Any experts have recommendations of the best method to soak it off? I hear there are wraps, are they sold at target or do I need to order them somewhere? I'm going to have to get my shellac off because my nails grow so fast and the tips still look good but the nail beds don't. Also I don't wanna keep forkin over $45 every two weeks.

Heather, it should be included to get it taken off with the first appt's fees.  You can just do acetone just like gel and acrylics.

I don't think you need breaks at all.  I do find that if I leave it off for a night and then get it re-done, it lasts a lot better...but that could just be me!
  • I'm a nail tech, and honestly there is no need for a break, nails are dead and don't need to breath (hence why it dosn't hurt to cut them) Like someone said in a previous post the only damage that can be done is if you pick it off yourself, as it adheres to your nails. You can soak them off with acetone in 5 mins.
