Semi Vent

My wedding coordinator is on my a** about my guests purchasing their day passes, like NOW!  She keeps saying entry to the resort is not guaranteed and keeps throwing in my face the fact that we have "special timing" for the half day passes.  They have a pass that allows entry from 6pm until about 1am or so, but changed it for my wedding to entry at 4:30pm until 12am (ceremony begins at 5pm).  So she's saying the resort will not honor that timing.  I have an email from her AND my beach bum confirming they will allow entry at 4:30pm that I was going to bring with me and make sure they had it noted!  My guests pretty much do what they want and no matter that I've told them to purchase in advance, many of them will wait until they get there, it's just how they are.  I just emailed my beach bum and I hope she tells me it'll be okay, otherwise, there will be a bridal melt down if my guests aren't allowed into the resort, especially considering I've spent thousands on dinner and "reserving" the private, excuse me "semi-private" areas! UGH!!!

side note:  FI and I couldn't afford to purchase the passes for people, they asking well over $50 per person and dinner was not cheap.  I know lots of girls consider this tacky, but that's just how it had to work out :-\

  • That would drive me insane!!!  I'm sorry, but you are spending X amount of dollars at their facilities, there should be no "entry is not guaranteed" baloney!

I know your BB agent will step in and make everything okay.  My beach bum has already told me to tell her if I run into ANY issues and she will help work it out.  You have proof that they can get in a little early, there shouldn't be an issue!

  • Ugh, so my beach bum is also saying they HAVE to purchase the passes in advance.  I am trying to keep calm but this is bulls***!!  Trying to focus on work b/c it's not like I can force people to purchase their passes...we will just have to see what happens as we get there :-(

It really is baloney, after what they charge and all of the restrictions they seem to have wedding wise, they should bend a little on certain things!  I still argue that guest staying ONLY for the wedding/wedding related activities that have been paid for by the Bride and Groom should NOT have to pay to attend the wedding, or at least deeply discount the damn day passes!

    Thanks for reading :-)

That is crazy! How dare they say entry is not guaranteed after you spent all that money for their food, etc.! Honestly, they shouldn't have to pay for a day pass if they are only there for the wedding in the first place; especially since you are the one paying for the food in the first place. It's not like your guests will be taking away from the food of the regular hotel guests! It really is annoying how unflexible these resorts are when it comes these weddings.

Tell me about it, Terri!  I am really going to write a letter to the CEO of the company just to express how distasteful this is.  Even if it is too late for me, maybe, just maybe, it will help brides down the line!

Of course I will also point out the good things, I really am happy with my resort choice, but certain things keep coming up that I wish I knew from the very very beginning!  If it wasn't such a surprise, I wouldn't have this sour taste everytime they mention something knew...that almost always has a price tag attached!

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this, that really blows. I think it's BS that any resort charges for daypasses, if you're paying for a wedding package (if you're doing one of the "free" packages that some resorts have, it's a little different IMO, but that's a different discussion).

Definitely write a letter to the CEO, and mention that it will affect your reviews on theknot and various travel sites. They pay more attention to those than some people think.

  • I totally agree! The resorts really take advantage of the brides in these situations. My resorts makes us pay for a day passes too. They don't care that we have spend $10 per chair for each person, rent the reception space for $500 dollars, plus pay per person for food and drinks

It's ridiculous! I really hope you got it all worked out, Julyet!
