Registry questions

So a few people have been asking if I am registered and we did not do one. I was not expecting a shower since we are going away. I know that I am getting one because I've been asked for my list for it. FI and I decided to go this week in between my classes.

Little background: I used to work for the school I went to, so he and I lived together for a few years in an apt on campus. We have the basics. We are in the process of looking for a home right now and are currently staying with his parents.

How did you all decide which store(s) to register with?
Is it ok to register (for gift cards) at Home Depot?
Anything that SHOULD NOT go on a registry?
Online or in store?

Thanks in advance for any input!!

Re: Registry questions

  • I chose to register at Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond, because they are affordable. I didn't feel comfortable having a destination wedding and registering for expensive stuff at stores like the Pottery Barn. Plus, most people have access to Target and BBB

I wouldn't register for Home Depot gifts cards. I think some people will think to get that on their own considering that many may know you already have the basics. You may also choose to just have your family and bridal party spread the news about gift cards via word of mouth.

  • I registered at Target and Macy's. Both had affordable options and had everything we really wanted. We chose to register in the store.

I don't think registering for gift cards is the best way to go about this, personally. If you have the basics, why not register for some fun or nicer items for your new home?

  • I wasn't planning on having a registry either but people kept asking me and my family is giving us a party in a few weeks so I went ahead and created one (well, three lol).  My FI and I have been living together for about 2 years now and have most of the basics.  I registered at Macy's Target and BBB b/c of the budget friendly prices, for a lot of household items that we just haven't gotten around to getting (more dishes, drinking glasses, wine glasses), you also can't go wrong with bedding, bath towels, pot holders, and how about some home decor like vases & candles

  • Thanks ladies. I was thinking Target and JC Penney, and maybe BBB since they always circulate the 20% off coupons.
