Good morning All! Please help :)

Hello All, Okay so im just recently engaged and new to the site. Im trying to find a inexpensive venue in Tahoe by the water but im having trouble find a location for the reception. Someone suggested that i rent a huge house and do an outside reception in the backyard. is that tacky? i just dont want to prolong any planning and never really get around to it. I am estimating about 100 guests. Thanks in advance :)

A lot of people do backyard receptions. Its not tacky. Just make sure you tell them when you rent the house that you are planning an event. You also want to make sure that the neighbors would be okay with something like that and/or end it at a reasonable hour.

Alicia Silverstone got married in the backyard of a mansion by Lake Tahoe. Most of the houses that back that lake are really nice... I wouldn't worry about being "tacky" or low class or silly (what did you mean by "tacky"? -- hate that word)There are also several other venues in Tahoe. Edgewood, Valhalla, Gatekeeper's Museum, Riva Grill, Sunnyside Resort on the high end.... then still nice but not extravagant... Blue Angel Cafe, Tahoe Beach & Ski, Round Hill Pines,

I recently went to a wedding in Tahoe... They had a small ceremony for family only at Fallen Leaf Chapel in Fallen Leaf lake and their reception at the Blue Angel Cafe... I know they only spent a total of $5000 for their entire wedding and had about 100 guests...It was very cute! You should look at Fallen leaf lake- it's a breath taking setting... There are some cheap cabin rentals and the chapel as well.. The chapel is teeny tiny- but very cute if you'd want to get married in that kind of setting...Here's a pic..http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3838Good Luck!

I don't think it's tacky at all! I think it would be less formal, but that doesn't make it tacky or bad. Could be a lot of fun. One thing to think about though is that doing a backyard wedding is often more expensive, not less so, because a lot of the things that you take for granted at a regular wedding venue (tables, chairs, dishes, lighting, electrical, etc.) have to be rented and brought in. So keep that in mind and do a lot of research before you settle on a place. Also, check out herecomestheguide.com -- you can look up venues by region, number of guests, type of venue, etc. It's a good place to start your research on venues.

I had the same problem when I was looking at Tahoe originally.  I think the idea of renting a house is a good one.  I also found one place that was right on the water that had an area for the reception as well as the ceremony - it's call Round Hill Pines or something like that ... www.rhpbeach.com Good luck!

I'd suggest that if you're looking at houses, make sure they allow you to have receptions before you get your heart set on a place. Some have strict rules about that.
