Anyone ever watch wedding-type shows on TV?

Ok, so I DVR Say Yes to the Dress and Wedding Day and can't seem to get enough of them. I've watched a few episodes of Platinum Weddings, but that show just made me bad because I didn't want to spend $20k on lighting.I watch these shows to get some ideas and because they're quiet amusing.   I understand that some people are just very wealthy and can afford to spend a lot of money on one event..but in the same regards....omg...serioiusly? One episode of SYTTD, a girl's parents were buying her wedding gown. She fell in love with the dress that cost $24K. The parents then haggled the floor model down to $15k. Really? $15k for a dress...why? These girls all have an entourage with them when they're dress shopping and they all ball into tears when they find the right one.  Did anyone cry when they found the one? I didn't.Wedding day is sweet and touching because they showcase a deserving couple and give them the wedding of their dreams. I thought that the bride in the most recent episode got shafted. Previous brides were all given couture wedding gowns from high-end designers like Badgley Mischka. The last one's dress came from David's Bridal. Nothing is wrong with David's Bridal, but I was just wondering why she didn't get a couture gown. Anyhoo, just wondering what other brides-to-be thoughts are on shows like this. If you either find them entertaining or sad that the weddings cost as much as a home.

I enjoy watching them too. They're pretty entertaining, but then again I have always love those type of planning shows.I saw that episode of SYTTD and thought that family was out of their mind to spend that much on a dress, but to each his own.

haha.  LOL.  I was thinking when I read your subject line "does anyone on this board ever turn off wedding-type shows on TV?" LOVE them.  Too much.  Even the ridiculous ones...it's masochistic, but oh so fun.

I know the episode of SYTTD...I was shocked by that price too. My other favorite is Rich Bride, Poor Bride. Normally one side of the couple wants to spend on everything, and the other side is a budget cruncher. It's quite humorous to watch them bicker about how much to spend...I don't think it's been on lately though:-(

Haha I watch say yes to the dress and platinum weddings but platinum weddings makes me sick sometimes. But my moms personal fav is bridezilla. I watch it with her and we just laugh and laugh it's a weird bonding moment actually. The new one I am into is rock the reception. That one is funny...but yeah I am stuck between wedding magazines and tv shows...

LOVE them! My dad and I watch bridezillas together and get a kick out of it. It's cute that my dad gets so into wedding things too but now he likes to refer to me as Lindsay Bridezilla. He finds it quite amusing. FMIL is obsessed with SYTTD but then she thinks I am going to be crazy like a lot of the brides on that show. When I asked her if she wanted to go dress shopping with my mom and my bridesmaids and I she responded with "will there be fighting?" I was expecting excitement but that's what I got instead. Luckily we all went shopping together, there was no fighting, and there were happy tears :-)

I think my fiance is going to write some kind of a contract that will prevent me from watching any wedding shows after the wedding!  I do love them, but they make me a little nutty and I definitely get wedding envy! They are nice after a long day, though!

I've never heard or Rich bride. Poor Bride..i'll have to keep an eye out for that one and the Rock Reception one too.OMG, some of the dresses chosen on SYTTD are just horrible. Pnina Tornai is a really good designer and i do love some of her dresses, but then there are the dresses she made that the brides picked out are borderline hookerish. An episode last year, some girl had her dress custom made and the total was about $24k. She looked like she was going to burlesque, not a wedding. I also didn't realize that if we haggle with the salesmen, we can get a deal. A few customers traveled so far to find their dream dress and couldn't afford it, so Kleinfelds knocked a few hundred off and gave them the accessories. I don't think that I would ever haggle my wedding dress. Like the consultant said last week, he wouldn't walk into Gucci and start bargaining. I do get wedding envy to see how how they can be so extravagant with the decor which is probably just pocket change to them.

I was always interested in watching those shows, but never seemed to catch them on TV and didn't bother DVR'ing them. I did catch a few episodes of Bridezillas that were just too scary to keep in my memory. There was also a new wedding planner one that I saw once and really liked...

Oh..I do have on Get Married every morning in the background when I am getting ready for work. It's actually a pretty good informational show. I got some great ideas on centerpieces from it.

I like wedding shows but def. cannot watch too much of 'em. Platinum Weddings is bad...i REALLY don't like that one! Wedding envy isn't even the half of it! I've seen SYTTD and that one's ok but couldn't imagine spending even $5K on my dress!! I get a kick outta Rich Bride Poor Bride & i like how they show lil old couples that got married like 20 years ago and only spent like $500 on their entire wedding, LoL!! i really like My Fair Wedding w/ that guy David Tutera but i haven't seen it on in a while. Bridezilla is HILARIOUS! My mom & sis joke around and call me that sometimes when i start stressing but i tell them, "no way...u guys would DIE if i really was like those girls!!". Some/ most of them r CRAZY!!

I watch these, too!  I haven't gotten into Wedding Day, but I like SYTTD and Platinum Weddings, although they can be over the top.  Bridezillas is okay.  I don't DVR these shows. A friend of a friend was asked to be on Platinum Weddings and from what I was told, the show 'ups' everything.  So, if you say you are going to spend $7500 on linens, they will raise it to you spending $10,000.  This person declined being on the show for that particular reason and for many others!

I loooove wedding shows, my poor FI has to put up with it all the time! I watch Rich Bride, Poor Bride (again, hasn't been on for a while), Platinum Weddings, SYTTD, Bridezillas, Who's Wedding Is It Anyway? (on the Style network)....and I'm sure some other ones. I really loved Bridezillas, but now a lot of the girls on there seem like they are acting to be as bridezilla as they possibly can, so they are starting to get super annoying and I just wanna punch them in the face.

Dude Loanbpham! I totally feel you on the Pnina dresses. I think I know the one you are talking about is it the dress that is a straight up see through corset with like ripped up tulle on the bottom? It looks like its unfinished because you can see the boning...sooooo not cute. And to worry about it looking dated is one thing but some of those dresses are just trashy for over 10k. Actually Rock the Reception is new and it was on directly after SYTTD on TLC its basically where the couple does a fun dance for their first dance and they bring in choreographers. One was particularly funny because they did the hammer dance so well! Rich Bride Poor Bride is on WE TV along with Platinum weddings which I don't have those channels but FI's parents do so when I am there he catches me watching those shows. Yeah Bridezilla seems a bit too overplayed sometimes where its like "really these people can't be like this all the time" My mom was laughing at the one girl whose mom wore a prom dress to her wedding and wanted to be the center of attention My mom jokes that she will go get a huge ball gown and a tiara for my wedding for no reason at all. HAHA

Okay, I feel better that I'm not alone I watch all these shows too. FI thinks they are torture to watch but sometimes - especially on Bridezilla - it's like watching a train wreck and you hope the grooms walk away but sadly..they never do!

I like Who's Wedding is it Anyway on Style, they feature weddings that range from $5k to a million. Of course the planners always shower the low budget couples with freebies, but I got some good ideas from the details. Before we got married my fiance would dread Who's Wedding stylathons!
