Wedding cake?

I'm curious to know what the average price for a decent cake (beautiful and good-tasting) would be for a wedding of about 90 guests? I would like to get an idea before we start looking into a bakery. Any recommendations within the San Jose or Mountain View area?

We are using A Piece Of Cake Bakery in Santa Clara but I don't know the cost because it is included in our package.  (I'm sure we'll have to pay for upgraded designs though).  My sis used them too and they were at a Bridal Faire so I could "re-taste" the cake and it really was the best I tasted!

You could spend anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to $1000.  It depends on where you go and how fancy your cake is.  I recommend Sweet Passions Bakery in San Jose on Alum Rock Ave.  They just opened up a cupcake kiosk in Valley Fair if you want to try their cupcakes (I haven't been yet).  At any rate I think they are extremely reasonable and for 90 people you could probably get a really nice tiered cake for $400-500.  I think they said they charge about $5 per slice.  We just tasted there and really liked the flavors.  Good luck!

I highly recommend Jen's Cakes in Willow Glen. Our wedding cake was delicious and gorgeous, and Jen and her husband are wonderful to work with. Since our wedding last year, I've also used Jen's Cakes for my husband's birthday cake, my birthday cake and our goddaughter's 1st birthday. We received so many compliments about our cakes and tons of friends and family have asked where we got them. I can't say enough great things about Jen! =) If you want to see pics, let me know & I'll try to post some. Good luck and happy planning!

I second Jen's Cakes! We're getting cupcakes done, but I know that their regular cakes are fairly priced. We had a cake testing a few weeks ago and it was sooooooooooooooo good! We tried all of the flavors that they offered for the sample and they were all consistent in the great taste and the moistness.

We're doing cheesecake from Debbie with Not Just Cheesecakes in Campbell and it's costing us $6/slice or person. Not the cheapest route, but her cakes are darn good!

We're going with Nikki from A Tale of Two Truffles.  She bakes out of Belmont, but does tastings in Santa Clara.  Super good cakes, is willing to try any design, and her tiered cakes start at only $3 a slice, with sheet cake at $1!!!  I think we're going to do a simple tiered and supplement it with sheet to keep the cost down.  She's also willing to do each tier in a different flavor if you can't decide on one.

We got ours from Cakes by Ana in San Jose. Everyone commented on how good the cake was. Ooooo and we still have our top tier in the fridge. Sorry, sidetracked. Ours was about $5 a slice i think for buttercream.
