Wedding Cake, bakeries

I am in the East Bay, wedding will be in Oakland. Can anyone recommend a good bakery that is fairly lower in price like around $3 to $4 (or less) for three tier and something like my siggy pic? Also they must be able to have buttercream frosting because I hate the taste of fondant ...it reminds me of a kneaded eraser for my art classes Actually just any good recs on bakeries would be appreciated.

We are using Dorothy's Custom Cakes in Castro Valley. She is wonderful and uses strictly buttercream. We are getting a 3 tiered cake with design for 150 people for about $4 a slice/person. HTH!

I think $3 to $4 a slice will be hard to come by in Oakland proper unless you try Safeway (which many have said has good cake!) or Costco.The ones I usually hear recommended in the Oakland area are Katrina Rozelle, Masse's Pastries, Crixa Cakes, Torino Baking, Sweet Adeline and Virginia Bakery. If you're interested in cupcakes, there's Love at First Bite.Have you considered doing a small cake and supplementing with sheet cake? Doing just one flavor and a simple design will probably bring the cost down too.You could also look into some of the lesser known bakeries out in the suburbs and see if they deliver - they tend to be a bit cheaper.Good luck!

Neldam's Danish Bakery in Oakland - that is where my cake is coming from and I have had countless wedding cakes as well as pretty much every one of my b-day cakes from there.Cakes are very affordable, between $1.30 and $3.00 depending on what shape tiers you want, etc.  The cake is very good and they do some great cakes.They have a website too with their basic wedding cake prices, etc.

I don't know much about bakeries in the area, but a cake with that much piping and details is not going to be cheap.  It takes a lot of time and skill.  Try asking your caterer for bakery recommendations.  You'll have to call yourself for prices, but they'll probably have a good idea of who does good work.

I'm using Niki at Tale of Two Truffles.  She hosts tastings in Santa Clara and works out of Belmont.
