You're paying $2k for a gorgeous venue and only $1k for the photographer!I'm sure there are a few decent ones that are the price but I personally wouldn't skimp on photography! Maybe pay for just shooting and digital negatives... that may still run you $1500 or more.

Ditto ruthie... I would not skimp on photography! Unfortunately, the only cheap options I know of are on Craig's List and it's pretty hit and miss in terms of what you get there...

I was in the same boat when deciding on a photographer and was told not to be "cheap" when it came to photography, but I could not justify spending more on my photographer than my venue cost! I am getting 6 hours, online hosted album, 2 shooters, all pictures on CD, an engagement session and a bound album with 25 edited pictures all for $700. She is a fashion photographer who is trying to expand her wedding portfolio.  She is great to work with and we were so happy with our engagement pics! Here is her blog and website if you want to check it out!http://weddingsbytammynize.blogspot.com/http://www.weddingsbytammynize.com/

I'm with you, clarinet - photos are beautiful and all, but they're just not worth $2500 to me! Thanks for these suggestions... I'll be checking them out :D

This is one thing I was not willing to skimp on - from previous brides who had less expensive photography - the photos came back awful and unfortunately you have to live with those for the rest of your life - and you can't get that day back or recreate those photos. My photographer cost more than my venue, but will be well worth it. We are paying $4k + and that's after we negotiated with him and he added some additional items we wanted in the package.

One of my friends used Lisabeth W Photography for her wedding and was very happy. I liked her photos from her wedding and they were pretty inexpensive.Just make sure you ask to see a FULL wedding not just the "best shots" before you book anyone.

Thank you everyone for your help. To clarify, I also have my uncle who is a photographer helping out, but i just dont want him to miss the whole wedding. So expensive isnt really what im looking for. I contacted the girl ssmb-clarinet has, and she seems nice and very talented so im in the process of setting up a meeting with her.

I love my photographer's style of pictures and his price!  He did a wedding a few weeks ago I did hair for and all the girls just loved him and the bride is very happy with all her photos:   http://www.imperiousphotography.com/home.html

Craigslist is good, but usually for the season you are in now...I know you are not in the budget for a seasoned pro, but mine is amazing...She will cost you more though.  Best of luckhttp://www.yelp.com/biz/octavia-hunter-photography-san-franciscoI love her reviews....

You should look into Denné Alise Photography. Denne just did our engagment session I can't tell you how much fun we had with her. She made us feel comfortable, while giving simple direction ane we were able to get our photos back on a DVD extremly quickly and we loved all the pictures she took of us. I was like you really stressed out about finding a photographer within my budget since it's really tight. But somehow she was able to work with my fiance and I. I really think photographers are important since your photos are one of the only things you have after your wedding to remember it but I could imagine spending a fortune on one. I'm so grateful that we were able to get such amazing photos at such a good price! If you would like to see our engagement photos to see her work you can email me at slsuch11@yahoo.com or you can email her at dennealise@yahoo.com She has some photos posted on this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/21419400@N02/ of various photoshoots she has done but unfortunetly her main website is currently under constructions so you aren't able to see all of her amazing work! Can't wait for our wedding now!
