I went to Reno a couple months ago with my family to visit my aunt and hang out with extended family, and we stayed at the Peppermill.  We mostly did family stuff, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of recommendations for the city.  But!  If I know the room you're talking about, it is super duper sweet! (My uncle and aunt stayed in the nice room.  I stayed in the super old ghetto part of the hotel.)I really enjoyed relaxing out by the pools at the hotel - good sun, drinks, and loungers.  There is a nice bar inside too.  The casino is decorated in neon 70's fabulousness, but is worth checking out, and I imagine it would be worth hopping around to a few other casinos as well to check them out (in general, I think it's much cheaper to gamble in Reno than in Vegas!).  And there is a nice little lake near the Peppermill that you can walk around if you want some exercise.  (The hotel also has a gym if you prefer the indoors.)  The Truckee River might also be worth checking out.  And see if there will be any conventions or festivals when you are there (I think Reno has a lot of them) - could be good either if you want to check it out or if you want to avoid it!Happy Birthday!

We were just there back in January.  We stayed at the Peppermill too.  I think it's the Nugget that has a comedy show.  It's Catch a Rising Star.  We caught a pretty good night so it was really funny.  The University of Nevada, Reno is pretty nice too if you're looking for a nice place to walk around.  They also have a small planetarium.

I was just there last month at the Pepermill too. We played nickle Keno and had lots and lots of free drinks!
