Guest Book ideas/suggestions

We were thinking of straying from the traditional guest book where people dont seem to write much in it and you'd rarely pull out the book to look through.
I saw somewhere that someone had the guests write notes on cards, for them to then put into a rollodex so that they can flip through it in the future.

I thought that was a fun idea but i don't know.  Just a rollodex seems different.

I know people do the sign around a frame thing, or a plate, but i'd prefer something they can write their name and a message if they'd like.

Any suggestions?

I did this: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/49603269. It turned out really well and looks really pretty! Some people just signed and others wrote short notes. It's hanging in my dining room now.

What about instead of the traditional guestbook with lines you make a photobook of pics of you & your FI (maybe engagement pics) and have people sign all around in that? You might be more likely to look at that. Or even a coffee table book of photography connected to you & your FI (Philly, a hobby, a fav. vacation spot, where you are honeymooning, etc.) that people could sign in and all around.

I am not saying this in a snarky way, I may not understand exactly what you are saying but if you think people won't write messages in a guest book why do you think they would write them on note cards? Is it because of the lines? I could probably make a better suggestion if I understood better.

FWIW we are doing a photobook with our engagement pictures and a photobooth that includes a guestbook.

We used a photobook, although originally I was planning on having small pieces of paper to put in my scrapbook.  I think people really liked it, but they spent so much time looking at the photos that only about 20% of the guests actually saw it and signed it.  Maybe I made it too big, or I should have put someone in charge of it.  I'm glad we have it but a little disappointed more people didn't see it/sign it.

thanks guys.  hm.. i dont know why i didnt think to use the cards for a scrapbook.  thats easy and simple.
Jely- Idk, just at weddings i've been at/in, usually most people just seem to sign their names in the guest book saying they were there and a few will say "congrats" or leave a note. Maybe itt's the formet of a book with big pages and just lines.  I just think i like the personalization more of each person/family having a card to write on.

We did something like this but made our own:

We felt the same way about people not signing a guestbook, and this was cheap and easy to make, so we figured if no one did it, we just wouldn't really do anything with them. It worked out nicely though. We had someone from our venue pass them out after cake cutting, so people were a bit tipsy and wrote funny things. We got a good amount back filled in so I will probably make them into a book.

We did the matted pics that people signed the frame. We also had the photobooth provide a scrapbook and put the doubles of each guests pics sign in the book.

I also heard of a very unique guestbook idea. It is not something that all brides would like, but some may.   You get a drawing of the outline of a tree. Then each guest inks their thumb to form the leaves of the tree. They sign next to their initials or write a little message. By the end of the wedding it is a gorgeous tree with all of the "leaves" made of the guests' thumbprints. The couple then frames it to hang in their house after the wedding.  Google "tress thumbprint guestbook" and see images too.
