Register for Honeymoon?

Has anyone registered for their honeymoon? One of our registries was deleted because the store (West Elm) took that service off their website. And frankly, I don't have the energy or interest in setting up a whole new registry somewhere for sheets and towels. So I'm thinking of signing up with HoneymoonWishes.com. Thoughts?

You are 10x more likely to get something off your registry if it's a set of pots and pans in relation to money.

I think it depends on your family and if it's been done before.  I thought they were a great idea originally - but since then we've contributed to Honeymoon registries as gifts 3 or 4 times and only one of the couples even went on the honeymoon because they didn't get enough money to pay for everything.  AND, I heard recently that if you don't use it in like a certain time frame ( a year?) they just cash it out.  I know that some boards say they are tacky and basically the same as asking for money.  But I really think it comes down to your family/guests and how you think they'd react to it.  GL

Like people have posted, I would see how your family feels about it.  I've heard some people say it's tacky, but I don't give a crap and I'm going to do it.  I would much rather pay for my friends or family to  have fun on their honeymoon then to pay for something they don't really need or return.  I say go for it!

I looked into it because we were staying at a Marriott and they sent me some info on it, but we ultimately decided no. All of the services were really pricey- $100 for dinner, $250 at the spa, $100-$300 "activity" credits (for snorkeling or kayaking). It was cheaper for us to go off of the resort for these things. I felt at that price range it was tacky- just like asking for money. People who want to give you cash will- and they did- and that is WAY better because there is no restrictions on when/where you use it!One guest who no showed called our hotel and paid for the two of us to go to the Luau. It was really nice of him, but it was really pricey and not a great Luau. I had read reviews and knew that we would want to go elsewhere, but you can't turn down a free Luau. So if you do go that route, make sure it is actually something worth going to.

my girlfriend recently got married and had a honeymoon registry along with a gift registry with a few items on it for those who felt more comfortable buying a household gift. I will personally be doing a honeymoon registry b/c my fi and i have lived together for so long already we have everything we need. I believe her honeymoon registry was more hand selected....she married in houston and honeymoon in napa. So she had activiites like horse back riding and hot air balloon rides and gave a price like $20 x 5 needed so guests could still pay smaller amounts instead the entire hundred dollar gift b/c honeymoon acitivites are expensive.  I believe the site she used (thebigday.com) also just put the money into the their account when someone "purchased a gift" and then they were free to use that money as they wanted while on their honeymoon.

My FI and I have a Honeymoon Registry and have had a lot of our friends and family saying they'll be giving us gifts from that!  They love the idea!We have already booked our flights and hotels and are using the registry for specific activities - a wine tour, snorkeling, kayaking, etc.  That way, its not like people are paying for our honeymoon, we're going no matter what, but the registry will help us decide what to do while we're there.  We also have a more traditional registry for those that prefer to give more tactile gifts.

We did one through Traveler's Joy and everyone has honestly loved it!  My FI and I have lived together for 4 years so there were some things we could 'upgrade' but we really have been lucky in establishing a great home already.  The honeymoon registry was a great option for us and it tied in with our travel themed wedding.  Take a look at your fam and friends as some may be very traditional... ours was not the case as we have received an overwhelming number of gifts for our honeymoon!!

glad to hear they've been successful. we have a couple traditional registries too, but we're in our late 20's and have most of the typical home things. i feel greedy registering for "upgrades" when we the items we have are plenty useable. anyway, we've paid for our honeymoon already. we just realized after the costs of the wedding, the actual being in italy part is a whole expense we didnt think much about. so this will allow us to enjoy our honeymoon without fear of using up a good chunk of our savings! i had considered doing a "house down payment" registry instead but i figured people would like something more sentimental.

We are signed up at honeyfund.com We are still lazy and haven't really gone through the entire site, but that's what we're going to use. We've lived with each other for 2 years now and pretty have all we need.I don't think it's tacky at all. In fact, on the Today show, a couple set up a PayPal system where people would help pay off their student loan. There are sites where you can set it up where people can help pay for your down payment on a home. And then there are sites where you can have people donate to your organization of choice.
