Honeymoon thoughts

Hi Ladies, Im Katie, Im from Arizona and Im getting married on Feb 20th, 2010. My FI and I are looking in Northern Cali for our honeymoon. I thought this board would be a great place to get feedback! We've thought about San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. So Id really love to get opinions/recommendations of where to stay and what to do in Northern CA! Wed love to have a really romantic honeymoon but still go out sight seeing, shopping, etc! Thank you soo much : ) I really appreciate it!!

Hello!I just went to a wedding in Lake Tahoe and it was gorgeous!  It was pretty much a wedding weekend because it's so beautiful, and we wanted to enjoy some vacation time there as well.  It depends really on what you're into.  If you like golfing or bike riding, Tahoe is great.  It's very laid back; and then there is the option for nightlife - but it's really contained to one part of the area.  There were a few hotels that looked nice - my FBIL and his wife stayed at the Inn by the Lake which overlooks the lake and marina.  And then they moved to the embassy suites, which was nice; but they should have asked for a better room - they ended up with a weirdly shaped corner room that didn't have a lot of space.  There is also great shopping, and of course skiing in February.

There are tons of options in Northern California, and depending on how long of a honeymoon you have, you could split it between a couple of areas. There's Monterey/Carmel and the Santa Cruz area, a bit south of the Bay Area. Great beach, wineries, a popular destination for honeymoons. There is some shopping and activities too.San Francisco has all the shopping, great food, sightseeing, entertainment, great hotels. It's definitely busier and fast-paced. And it's pretty expensive (but then everything in CA is...)There's wine country - Napa/Sonoma. Wine tasting obviously and great food. Relaxing environment, some shopping, not a ton of sightseeing.Mendocino County - beaches/nature, relaxing atmosphere, some wine tasting and great food.

I'd be sure to keep in mind the time of year. Lake Tahoe will be beautiful in February, but it will also be very cold and snowy. If you like skiiing, snowboarding, sledding, etc and know how to drive in the snow, that would be a good option. San Francisco is also another great option, but once again, it will probably be pretty cold (and possibly rainy). There are a lot of sightseeing options and tons to do to keep you occupied. Napa/Sonoma county spa resorts would provide a ton of romance and relaxation, but there may not be much to see. I'd suggest a few days of San Francisco sightseeing and a few days of Napa county relaxation.
